So, airtel is introducing some new technology called Vectorization from europe that is supposed to take copper speeds to 100 mbps (upto).

They are saying you can continue with your existing plan using the new technology. My question is -- if I am continuing with an existing 2 mbps or 4 mbps plan, why would I move to the new technology and purchase a new modem?

Can someone clarify what exactly is the benefit?

The technology will work over existing copper-based DSL lines. There will be no new wiring, drilling etc. required at an existing customer’s premises.

However, users will have to buy a new V-fiber modem instead of the ADSL 2.0 modem that they currently use.

Existing Airtel broadband customers can upgrade to ‘V-Fiber’ speeds with their current plan and enjoy superfast data speeds at no extra monthly cost. If they are not happy with the service within one month, the company will refund the modem charges and the amount will be adjusted in the next bill cycle. New customers will get Unlimited three months trial offer. Existing and new customers can register at www.airtel.in/vfiber.

Pre-Booked for the NCR rollout. I don't get it though. Earlier Airtel said they cannot give more than 8 Mbps over copper, now they say that I may get upto 100?

Weird

difference in technology
ADSL2/ADSL2+ supports max 24Mbps
VDSL2 supports upto 100Mbps
on the same line

VDSL2 supports upto 100 but only till around 250 metres from the source as per this chart. I am about 800-900 metres away from the local Airtel substation thingy (as per Airtel themselves)

Anything's better than 8 😉

I hope they increase their upload speeds too, 100 KBps is shit

Did you get a call from them that you might get speeds upto 100mbps? The Official site has no reference of Speed

Just spoke to Airtel Customer Care, but, they said this was not available in my area 🙁

The modem costs 1000Rs (200 Rs added to bill for 5 months). Upload speed per the rep is limited to 5Mbps. He wasn't sure on whether the modem would be locked to Airtel. From the sounds of it, it looks like the same technology being rolled out for the 40Mbps speeds announced earlier.

Got a call from Chennai Airtel Team and the rep didn't realise that the call was lifted. I could hear the Floor Supervisor giving direction to him that tell customers other from Chennai "Thankyou for your interest in V-Fibre services and at the moment the service is only available in Chennai and we'll get back as soon as the service becomes available". I dropped the call right after hearing this.

Got a call from Airtel (bangalore number), since, I had signed up on the website for pre-booking. He confirmed that it wasn't available in my area - might take another 2-3 months - which is what they had told me 2-3 months ago 🙂
But, per this rep, upload speed would only be 512Kbps - which might be increased later. Not sure who is right

My current SNR for 16MBPS Plan of Airtel is 5.1

If I get the VDSL (V-Fiber), I'll be able to have good service since SNR is low?

I'm around 1000 meters away from Airtel's Exchange of my area.
