1 year ago:
I had 6+ Airtel mobile connections most of them postpaid, 1 with Blackberry as well -- these were the primary connections for making calls
2 Airtel Landlines (1 with BB and IPTV)
Almost had bought an Airtel DTH
Complaint resolution was within 24-48 hours, new connection provisioning within 24 hours

Now:
Trimmed it to 4 Airtel prepaid connections -- primarily for incoming calls
Outgoing calls moved over to Docomo and a single Airtel BB+Landline connection (1700 worth of free calls.. so why not🙂 ) with Vodafone as backup
New broadband connection takes 2-3 weeks to get installed
1 month after installation, landline goes dead, the number "Does not exist" in their systems and the resolution will take a minimum of 7 days.. probably with a new number
Every 1-2 weeks, they randomly activate one or the other VAS on one of my prepaid numbers, which I then have to call to deactivate. Takes upto a week for them to credit the amount back -- They say it was done for my conveinience as I was not using any VAS(Yes they actually said that) !!!!
(They do this even if the SIM has been out of the phone!!!!!!!)

Has anyone else had had similar differences in the experience?
Has their service actually deteoriated so much in the past 1 year or so, or is mine just an exceptional case?

Airtel is notorious for activating VAS without the consent of customers. THerefore i think postpaid is best bet as there are no such vas activations. (there are exceptions, though)Even if they do it for postpaid, you can always withhold the payment and make then give waiver.

I think its related to the fact that, their volume of customers has gone up considerably.Just recently one of my friends wanted to have his connection shifted. He had informed them a month in advance. A month passed, he shifted, and waited for another month, the connection was never shifted, so he went for bsnl instead.

airtel needs some serious product innovations otherwise its revenues will surely stagnate in a year or two. It cannot ride along the subscriber addition wave for long.

actually with airtel the official time is one month which is pathetic..so proper thing to do is to disconnect ur old connex and apply for a new one at the new place..this is what i did

yeah. airtel has gone to the shits. they now ask for as many as 10 days for shifting. i asked them what if i apply for a new connection. they said that newer connection would probably take longer. i was like WTF.
