Airtel Broadband SmartBytes

well speed on demand is not as expensive as this one right? 🙂

haha. i hope airtel sends you an alert on email or sms about any such updates. as for SOD, someone would need to have access to your account on a regular basis. 🙂 also... i wonder if this option would work on call center accounts or business accounts. more chances of damage there.

I was sure this was going to come as a next step to FUP .. SickTel is now offering to sell higher speeds high speed downloads after you've been fu**ed by them .. got a mail from them .. and here is the link from that mail airtel

yes kept seeing this annoying msg as well more often while browsing on my friends connection after it was FUP'd & speeds reduced to 256 Kbps. New ways of making money i guess

----------

But like MG said it sure is an improvement over the conventional system, sure we can get better speeds for a lesser price by having another connection but what if someone exceeds the limit only accidentally or once in a few months + Only needs that speed boost of a limited time/quantity - Makes sense for a lotta folks in this area, Otherwise we can still stick to 256 Kbps UL until next cycle or till another provider with better speeds are available 🙂

it might not be correct but i think the protest against AFUP has worked partially. airtel is no longer hiding the limits. in fact, all plans now show the limits fairly clearly.airtel no longer has just stupid plans on offer with limits of 50GB at max. at one point of time, 100GB plan costed Rs. 5000. today you can get a 150GB plan for 2200 bucks. airtel smartbytes is pretty much what i/we had asked them to offer... let people buy additional bandwidth. the only problem? i cannot buy 100GB 200GB 500GB. and what they are offering is not exactly fairly priced.

Change takes times... They are changing that's the best thing...

And this is happening because Hayai is coming, they know if they don't offer something like hayai, a big chunk of their customer base will go for Hayai on day one...

Had hayai not being launched in India, you could nothave seen this change...

Wait for few more days and Airtel will be forced to come down at 10rs / GB or may be cheaper

I'm flattered, but I don't know that Hayai is a catalyst for this change, but I'm reasonably sure that now people know they're being charged too much Airtel and so forth are finally beginning to respond to the demands of the customers. The new plans are a start, here's hoping the retail prices continue to slide.

yes it is very flattering, change does take time and it take strategy, They wont be forming a strategy on the threat which has not materialized yet , so I think its protests and management waking up mixture that is making this call towards the new things, But it is clearly evident that they are testing waters, They haven't had real taste of market yet hence you see such prices, ( transitional plan)
wait a while till they come to conclusion and announce new plans

You can download a 1 GB file through Airtel SOD @ 2 mbps for a lesser price than buying more FUP which makes this smartbytes feature totally useless.

but if you have been FUPed i suppose you can (or should be able to) use speed on demand 😕
