Tata Sky or Dish TV

Hi All,I am very confused as to whether i should get Tata Sky or Dish TV. I am living in Adyar, Chennai. I do not mind the cost but my PRIMARY concern is that since I am hard of hearing I need SUBTITLES or CLOSED CAPTIONS atleast in movie channel or movies on demand. Also my son likes to connect to his 5.1. Please recommend whthr I should buy DishTV or Tata Sky.Thank you in advance.

Does dishtv have SUBTITLES?

Move to the U.S. or U.K...... we are a looooooooong way away from things like subtitles, closed captioning.... a looooooooooooooooonger way away from surround sound broadcasts....... and even looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonger away from HDTV.In terms of sound and video quality, DTH and CAS is a marginal improvement over the erstwhile cable system, and this I say specifically in comparison to the technology that is already available in the world today.

Hi there i am also residing in chennai. I am using tatasky from the day it has launched. Till now i did not had any problem for the last 9 months. Let me tell you one thing that people in chennai belive that Dish TV providing Sun TV & Sun News dont get misleaded by that statement. Dish TV is able to provide Sun TV as they are providing the entire DD DTH. In DD Dth Sun TV is availble thats the reason Dish TV is able to provide only Sun TV in their platform or else wait for another 2 months let the sun DTH be launched and then think about the DTH.
Since you are residing in chennai I also advise you that u can go for CAS where you could pick and choose the channel. The picture quality is also good in CAS but only thing which worries me is that you need to get the set top box from SCV and i dont know about their service if you have any problem in your set top box which your buying from SCV cable.

Personally i am satisfied with tatasky. They will provide the sun channels sooner 😕 .

The subtitles are provided from the broadcaster end and not from the carrier end. So if a particular channel has that subtitle facility, then it will be shown on both Dish TV and Tata Sky. Even in case of Actve Sports in Tata Sky, the feed with multiple camera angles and multiple commentary languages is from the broadcaster end. Only thing is that Tata Sky digicomp is able to distinguish between the camera angles and show in differerent windows. Similarly subtitles are to be shown from that particular channel end. Quality wise, Tata Sky is far better than Dish TV.

Subtitle can be provider or channel as well.Hindi Zee/Star channels transmitted in abroad transmits with subtitle in respective local language (like Arabic in middle east).And providers can provide subtitle option with selection key on remote or ON/OFF option in Menu for On demand movie channels (atleast!!!)

if u can wait then wait till first few weeks of june. thats when dishtv will get more transponders and they might launch new channels. if not, then atleast their quality wud improve. then u can take opnion here again.
