Microsoft might name the next edition of Windows Phone Tango

if the latest rumors are true, tango update for WP7 would be aimed at low end devices which is crucial for WP7 to take on Android. and Nokia might be the primary force behind tango as they are the only company that would be interested in developing low cost WP7 devices. all the other players have invested huge in their Android ecosystem.

do not worry... nokias would soon be using internet explorer that would not support advanced google services which rely on webkit rendering engine.

meego uses webkit of course.
that would not support ?

almost all google mobile web apps are designed for webkit. you can try using them in firefox on android, you would see the major difference in usability. if they are not supporting gecko on mobile, they are unlikely to support trident.

It surely cant be as dire. Coz they still have some backing here in India. Especially with the type of urgency they have shown in promoting their products.

Symbian Belle has shown promises, but "lookwise" it is an android copy if they are launching symbian new version now, what will happen after 2014!

they are switching to WP for almost all of their smartphones later this year. symbian would then be restricted to budget segment models. anna and belle are just transitional updates.

anna and belle are updates, but aren't they "too little and too late"as for WP i dont think they have anything new to "Offer" maybe Nokia had acquired WebOS, then it would have been a diffrent ball gameNokia is a pioneer in hardware and webos would have made them in software also

Nokia continues to align its workforce and operations

As a result, Nokia plans to close its manufacturing facility in Cluj, Romania by the end of 2011, as Nokia’s high- volume Asian factories provide greater scale and proximity benefits.

Review the long-term role of its manufacturing operations in Salo, Finland, Komarom, Hungary, and Reynosa, Mexico.

The planned closure of the Cluj factory combined with adjustments to supply chain operations is estimated to impact approximately 2,200 employees. The planned changes in the Location & Commerce business are estimated to impact approximately 1,300 employees. These personnel reductions are in addition to the measures announced in April and are expected to take effect by the end of 2012.

in simple terms. if you are working in a nokia manufacturing plant, your job is probably not safe. the company is aiming to switch to the Apple model of outsourcing the manufacturing to cut the costs.

IS Nokia in this bad a situation, that it has to close down plants? I thought they still had some presence in Markets even outside India!

In budget phones they will retain market share some what in India.First they did not launch any double sim models. So china grey import and then later Heavy advt'd Indian branded china models stole the below Rs 5000 market (50-70%)Also samsung and LG came with so many digital models in Rs 4000-8000 category. Now only ,Nokia is trying hard introducing double sim, touch ,3g in all price brackets.(cheaper price points)But once you give up a segment, hard to get it back. Now budget consious Indians dont hesitate to buy popular (china)models like Micromax,Lava etc in the below rs 5000 category.Nokia's hardware quality is un parallel.I wish they join the Android collective (but no profit for them).Atleast they can take market share back from Samsung,LG,Motorola etc.(which they lost in US$ 70 to 250 segment)Microsoft -I thing is going to bring out a mobile OS which will synch with Windows 8 tab/pc. (like all Apple products synch).Since Nokia has already gone to Microsoft camp, they may reap late benefits if it clicks.

But the people who are using Pirated Windows, wont even dare to do that.Nokia was drowning......it had 2-3 boats in which it cud have sailed to shores. But unfortunately, it chose to get into a boat, which has a hole in it! Even legit users of Windoze & other MS products are frustrated with it. At my workplace, they are using Office 2007. And just out of curiosity, i asked the IT guy that why are they still stuck on Office 2007, when they can very well upgrade to 2010?He said this - "Jhanjhatmaari bohot hai! Every other day it asks for verification. And it will create troubles for the whole IT team."
