Category 4 :
Customer has Broadband line of any Plan and want IPTV Service also.

There should be provision to apply through online for IP TV of BSNL

8. What is minimum bandwidth required for IPTV?
The minimum bandwidth required is 600 Kbps (both download and upload).

This might imply that 512kbs *unlimited* may be possible (in the future) for general internet browsing.

9. What are the benefits of IPTV over normal cable/ Dish TV?

convenient time of the customer

that could be useful, you can watch what you want, when you want, no need for tivo like device. This advantage alone might be enough to go for it assumig the price is affordable.

• DVD quality picture and sound
DVD in PAL countries is
- 720 × 576 pixels MPEG-2 (Called full D1) or 415 kbits/second/frame.
- @25 frames/second, so at least 10Mbits/sec is needed for DVD quality.

That's the bandwidth you require if you try to stream a normal DVD.

Not possible, so what is thier definition of DVD then
- 352 × 576 pixels MPEG-2 (Called Half-D1, same as the China Video Disc standard) will require 5Mbits/sec
- 352 × 288 pixels MPEG-1 (Same as the VCD Standard) will require 2.5Mbit/sec

BSNL currently supports upto 2Mbs speeds, so they may be offering *VCD* quality and not *DVD* quality. Not that the general masses will really notice anyway :wall:

The pics on the FAQ show ADSL-2 so download speeds are defnitely poss at 10Mbps+ but i will believe this when we see similar speeds offered from their internet plans at < Rs.10k a pop.

Distance from the switching office is important, if its more than 2 kms, you will never get 10Mbps download (even if its ADSL2+), so im guessing to maximise profits they will opt for a lower resolution for IPTV.

i agree with u here . sala profit hi banana hai ... no quality .. damn !!:madness:

bsnl iptv will be a big-flop :thumbsup:since it will be based on broadband....their customer offices are filled up with customers complaing:madness: of bad broadband service....my broadband used to disconnect every 2-3 mins because of low snr and other things!!!and if they club iptv with broadband then situation will get worse...a blank tv is all we gonna get...:rofl:

Its official now..There were no calenders in any BSNL office..Probably on strike ..so common to WB..They had simply forgotten about their 'June end' start to IPTV..They are getting new calenders soon..

Ok..so the launch date is now 15th August..
