How to get rid of irritating 8 digit number

did we have chouse the right thing to watch or this we call the proper entertainment in Tata Sky there is 8 digit number that flash on the screen at every 15min if some one had notice there is also a 12 digit number that flash every 1hr or 2he there is watermark tag on the bottom right of the screen there is a chanel logo on the top right or left of the screen when we see the active sports there is one warning flash for every 30min or 20 min i dont know the prop[er what it says but it goes like This (This Illigel To Show this Signal Bla....Bla....Bla ....Bla If You See This Channel Please Call Bla...Bla...Bla) what the hell is that we are paying Rs.300pm for entertainment and on the screen what we see as chashti said number takes your attention while watching watching some thing interestingthere is also onother problem with TATA(SKY on the active sports the other two camera angel is not showing in full screen

think of it as the activation hassles faced by paying customers of microsoft.

yeah, but after activation it stops bothering you, unlike these numbers that keep coming up

I used to see such numbers on some channels while I was with the cablewallah too but the frequency was a lot less than Tata Sky. Tata Sky really annoys by displaying the numbers every few minutes. It takes the cake.

I asked the engineer when he came to my house about the numbers and he told me it was a tracking device. To track the people who take Tata Sky outside of the country and try and use it.

heh. so that flashing number is a hidden camera device which takes photos of people who watch their services outside india?

lol yes how does number track users outside india? i think that number is just related to digicomp or card. can ppl post the number that flashes and number on card if any. just curious to know if numbers are same for all or different.btw does Tata Sky dish transmit geographical location to satellite? say longiture latitude?

I don't think Tata Sky has any idea of your longitude and latitude. That information is gathered by communicating with navigational low-earth-orbiting satellites like the American GPS satellites. Tata Sky equipment just communicates with the geostationary satellite Insat 4A, not the former satellites.BTW Tata Sky could place those digits at a corner like the channel logo if it has to display them instead of popping them up at random places across the screen every time.

if Tata Sky can track channels that user watches. that means data is indeed transmitted to satellite and then based on direction the data is coming from it can find exact location too. not sure if technically possible but logically seems possible.

Yes data is transmitted via Tata Sky but there's no way to find one's location without using what's called "triangulation" for which one needs at least 3 reference points while there's just one satellite in the case of tata sky.

u mean to say mobile operators have 3 satellites? or even they cant locate us precisely?

ok just realised mobiles work based on local towers

erm...they dont have two way communication. sorry. they transmit in the "broadcast" mode 😛 So theres no way they can "track" users. Plus, even if someone is illegally "stealing" their signals outside India, there is NOTHING they can do about it 🙂

there is 2 way communication otherwise how will Tata Sky monitor my tv usage?
