was able to connect to one of them but data did not work. it's confusing really.

To get 4g signal do the manual search when at rooftop. 😛
I think the one in caps is voda.
Here i am unable to latch, only vodafone 3g is working.

Good... Coverage will be excellent, in fact better than 2G.. In future it will be better to use 3G only than 2G only mode to save battery (with data off).. But (data) network will get filled up quickly comparing 2100MHz 3G... So they may charge more in future, I guess... Still, people who are ready to pay premium for better coverage will go for it, imho..

Airtel is in idea of using 1800MHz for 2G and liberalised 900MHz for 3G... Things will be interesting when we find who are all the winners of 900MHz spectrum in current auction

Well most people have single 2100 band 3g phone like micromax n xolo.
So don't expect 900 to overload so soon. Then 4g will be here so no worries.

you guys are forgetting the Most Important Thing about IDEA 3G

once network gets stable, There would be more intellectuals in Delhi as IIN would become available to all 😊😊
so get ready for Extra Gyan from everybody :rofl::lipssealed::whew::whew:

Airtel doesn't have 1800mhz liberal spect in delhi. They hold 900,2100 and 23mhz band only. Where ever they have 1800mhz liberal band, they will launch dual band 3g.

Wrong their 1800 band expired with 900 band on Nov2014.
Which Airtel brought along with 900 band in feb2014 auction.
Also 1800band has device ecosystem for 4g service not 3g service.
900mhz --- 2g, 3g, 4g service
1800mhz --- 2g and 4g service
2100mhz --- 3g n 4g service
2300mhz --- 4g service only.

To launch 4g, service provider needs fiber link backhaul unlike 3g where even microlink backhaul can be enough for 3g bandwidth.
I think its take time to connect each tower with fiber link.

getting great signal on wcdma in the basement for the last couple of days. on vodafone, i get zero. looks like the network is ready for public usage now.

the shitty Nokia 130 i got today is on an airtel sim. fucking piece of shit catches network but voice conversation is impossible. i am considering getting an idea sim for it as well 😛

In the process of porting to Idea Postpaid in NCR.

Would I be giving up speed in favor of coverage? My current Vodafone prepaid SIM on 3G gave a speed test of about ~5 Mbps indoors while my friend's Idea number on HSDPA struggled to reach ~1 Mbps indoors (~3 Mbps outdoor).

Theoretically, isn't 3G (the symbol I got on my Voda SIM) supposed to be limited to 384 kbit/s while HSDPA (H: the symbol on my friend's Idea SIM) is limited to ~3.1 Mbps? Getting quite confused here. The results are opposite of what they should be.

I would be quite happy if I get a uniform 2 to 3 Mbps across NCR, because Vodafone's 3G network has let me down in a lot of places, especially indoors.
