Hi friends.

1 If anyone of you have faced the trouble of having overlapping login / logout times for 2 different sessions are are being billed, i guess we must collectively approach Counsumer forum.

e.g.

you have a session log as foll0ws:-

03/04/07 22:25 03/04/07 23:36 3.1491 3302048 1114178
03/04/07 23:35 03/04/07 23:48 1.3719 1438503 374456

2. If as a consumer of any product or service, the service provider is providing sub standard service, i think we can approach consumer forum.

31/03/07 21:44 01/04/07 0:00 26.7905 28091910.99 631908

This is a clear flaw in the billing software for which we, as consumers are paying.

MTNL says that we should switch off / reset the router at 12.00 midnight. but it is almost impossible to sync ur pc time to their server time. Also when you login, you may be logging in to different autentication server at their end with different timings. The onus should be theirs to have a fault free software which can calculate bandwidth usage upto midnight, in addition to the session usage log.

As many other services in the country, like roads, they dig it up and when they fill it up they do a shoddy job resulting in accidents.

When will we tax payers and consumers take them to court and to task?

Also if one requests MTNL for the past 6 months usage billing details will they provide it, even if we are ready to pay a fee? If so how can this be done. And if it can be done I am sure all of us will find that we are being charged for flaws in their system and we are paying for it without even knowing it.

Please voice your views and the noble users on this forum may please advice on a legal course of action to address this and set right / reverse over excess payments, however small the amounts be.

the first point is not flaw it happens incase ur pc hangs or powerfails or temporaryADSL problem. in such cases ur old PPP session is not disconnected properly and henceMTNL disconnects it after some timeout, so say ur pc hung or powerfailed at 23:32and u started new session at 23:35 (but old PPP session has still not timed out) and thenMTNL disconnects old PPP session automatically at 23:36 after timeout. hence u seeoverlapping times. as far as MB calculation those are not counted twice for sure.first usage is of PPP session started at 22:25 and 2nd is of PPP session started at 23:35in 2nd point, i didnt get the flaw u were trying to tell, it doesnt seem wrong to me.

Dear Amish,

Thank you for replying.

First of all, I dont remember in the past 6 months when i had my PC hanging. Luckly, I have a very stable system. I have had no issues on Power Failure too.

Yes, I have had issues with disconnection on incoming voice calls.

As far as my understanding of software and DHCP assigned dynamic IP goes, you cannot have for the same connection to have 2 IP assigned.

For a particular number, to be assigned a new IP on router resent / disconnection the earlier session for the number has to close or a new IP cannot be assigned. If the above is happening, then there is a flaw. I have also in the past had two sessions with identical login and logout sessions, both collective logged over 900 MB in less than 3 hours on a 256 Kbps connection.

So common knowledge says there can be only one pipe at a time for each number.

The second point was to illustrate, that the billing software should on its own keep track of the download as of midnight. If it is technically not possible ( which i beg to differ) then the midnight package should not be offered. They need to first have a foolproof process in place and then offer it to users. I can understand there will be issues, but they need to be addressed and set right. Out here, it will never get addressed or set right, as they are not answerable to us.

Regards
Dandy
