SNR attenuation?

Line is more or less fine. Splitter connected? Any telephones connected?

Yes splitter is connected..

There are two lines coming from outside, one goes into where it is written 'Line' and other goes in to other side of splitter where it is written 'Phone' and next to that there is a slot where its written 'ADSL' and that wire connects to my modem.

I presume the 'phone' line is connected to a single phone in the house. Is there any disturbance in the phone?

Considering the above, it would appear that the modem is faulty. Could you borrow a modem from a friend and check?

No, the ATM OAM Segment Ping still fails in the diagnostic tests even after changing the modem.. While I did manage to avoid (so far) frequent disconnections by using LAN cable instead of wireless.

It's not the case with me. Max downtime is one hour. I too had a problem of random disconnects. Lineman even changed my telephone line. Used to work perfectly for a day or two then back to the same old. After pulling every strand of my hair, I finally had the sense to replace my modern. And voilà!

this happened with me 1-2 years back. now a few days back the phone went dead and took the net-connection alongwith it. after 3-4 days, a 'kaam ke bojh ka maara' person from MTNL came (not lineman). had a tough time identifying our phone-line in the messy jumble of lines of our society. lol (it wasn't marked). he was royally frustrated. but in the end, everything was/is back to normal, as is the case with MTNL always (atleast with me). 🙂
