Could you people please tell what problems you face with broadband ( other than crappy companies providing crappy bandwidth/datacaps,etc)What are the 'Peak' hours? Since many people use it in the night (in case of night unlimited plans) does that mean it will be equally slow then too?A teeny bit of help guys. Since i'm gonna switch over to "Broadband" (or something at half its speed), Could you please tell me what software will be useful for1) Measuring bandwidth and speed of downloads/uploads.I'm asking the following coz i hear that Broadband makes you more vunerable to malware/virus/trojan attacks...2) I already have Norton AntiVirus software, could you recommend any other better than that? 3) any software to prevent malware from sneaking in? (I already use ZoneAlarm, ADAware, Spysweeper and Spybot(S&D), but neither those nor Norton have prevented my PC from being infected by malware, and i still havnt been able to remove spyware from my PC)Thaks a millionVince

But vince,
There are more viruses and worms detected on dial-up than on broadband (dataone). I have recently switched from dial-up and find less viruses/trojan/worm attack on my PC!
Go through my previous post :

My prescription for the connected ones :

[ For people always looking for FREE Stuff ]--Rating=****
Firewall-------Sygate Personal Firewall
Antivirus------AVG Free Edition
Antispyware--Spybot S&D

[ For older PCs ]--Rating=***
Firewall--------Kerio Personal Firewall
Antivirus------F-Prot [paid]
Antispyware--Spybot S&D

[ For faster/newer PCs ]--Strongest+Robust Security--Rating= *****
Firewall+Antivirus+Antispam--Bitdefender Pro Plus 8 [paid]
Antispyware--Spybot S&D

I don't recommend MS Antispyware as its still in BETA Stage !
I'll try the final release.

If you need full versions of the paid ones, contact me by email.
I dont want to discuss that stuff here !

Use DUMeter to keep a track of bandwidth and usage.
Consider using Firefox as browser to minimize spyware attacks.
Updating each and every security software is a must, vince !

Thanks for the info agnivo007!!But i DO update those softwares (well, once every 3 months or so)....Oh, and i am an Operamaniac too..!!! 😀

I'm not one of such maniacs. I use what suits to me and is rational considering the specs and featrures. Every one has the liberty to choose what suits to him. When one asks for suggestion, I suggest him. Matter ends.:lol:I update antivirus definitions every day! (yes, every day)And firewalls/anti-spyware once a week. This habit has never let me down and so I have no security risks to think of !
