Have to agree with Mr. Sushubh all the way.....He is a major disappointment.....I am not really sure what a 75 year old man who had limited involvement with the development of professional and "amateur" sports in India could do for the sad plight of sports in India. While playing sports isn't a requirement to successfully perform the job responsibilities, it helps to identify better coaches and to identify talent. He certainly didn't make any strides to make India compete with China, Japan or South Korea, which incidentally is a smaller economy with a much smaller population. India can't even beat these guys(South Korea) in a sport they dominated for years. He has the power to advise coaches or make recommendations on hiring staff which can help people fulfill their talent. Who were his advisors helping to identify new talent?More pressing, what did he do with the budget given? Did he pay scouts to scour India high and low to look for people who may demonstrate physical talent? Where did all that money go.....Where was the vision? The condition of sports in India is shameful and this guy has something to do with it.This guy oversaw numerous schools eliminate Physical Education without ever speaking out against it. While school, in and of itself may not produce elite athletes, it provides the basis for sports infrastructure and teaches kids the basics of fitness which is the foundation for any athletic endeavour. If sports is to improve in India, younger, more energetic people with vision have to assume the reins. Political retreads, i.e. individuals moving from parliament into less tedious posts cannot be the norm. Actually, if done with vim and vigor, sports minister would be an EXTREMELY TEDIOUS post.An article recently said that he listened to sportspeople and the problems they faced; My question: Did he ever do anything about it?Did he ever use his influence and fame to persuade the federal government to provide a bigger budget with which the goals of improving the state of sports and athletic competition could be improved? The guy probably looted the coffers blind. Unacceptable job performance. His tenure as sports minister was an utter and absolute disgrace to the people of India. The people in India deserve sports programs that they can be proud of.
