MTNL Delhi Problem with Twitch.tv and Mtnl Broadband

Hey first post on this forum. I am using an Unlimited 2 mbps plan for 1899 in New-Delhi.

From the past month I am experiencing constant slutter/buffering in loading livestreams in Twitch.tv. I am using Mtnl internet for an year now and never had this problem. I could watch twitch livestreams in medium quality just fine with my 2 mbps internet.

Restarting my router a couple of times/and re-plugging the internet wires sometimes fixes the problem. But it starts again after few hours. I have tried lowering Twitch stream quality to low, changing DNS, disabled windows/router Firewall, got new router, re-installed windows, and bought a new Network card but still I experience this problem. My download speed is just fine, I get 250 KB/sec with Internet download manager.

Also when I connect my Telephone to the adsl splitter, I get constant huge packet loss ( around 20%). Unplugging the phone and adsl splitter, and connecting the wire directly to the modem fixes the packet loss, but I still get some packet loss (1-2%). I have tried contacting the customer support service but they are not coming to my house to analyze the problem. The customer support said that everything is ok from their side. I think they don't even know what 'packet loss and ping' means. Can anyone tell me what exactly is causing the problem? I have also tried using an alternate adsl splitter and internet wires and the problem is still there.

Also the internet wire coming to my house is connected to a medium-sized cuboid white box, then directly to the modem. I have removed the adsl splitter and my telephone as they were causing huge packet-loss. The medium-sized cuboid white box and the wire connected to it is very old (~10 years old).

Anyway I am also planning to change my internet company soon. Is there any good internet service provider in New-Delhi that offer unlimited broadband with no FUP limits? I have tried Airtel in the past but they have FUP limit.

If it was working fine earlier.... then it is current an MTNL problem.... they must have changed routing..... not much u can do abt it... other than using a VPN service....

Using a splitter is essential..... get another one..... check line stats etc..

I use Twitch.tv too for League of Legends...... most times it works perfectly on High or Source quality.... but sometimes it buffers even on my 8Mbps.....

U cant compare streaming services to IDM download speeds....... IDM always uses multiple connections.... so u will always tend to get full speeds....

Now its upto MTNL to change the routing again....... or use VPN.... streaming should be fine after 7-8PM with less traffic

Well if it is a routing problem, then why it starts working fine if I restart my router couple of times? And about the VPN, is there any free VPN which works with MTNL broadband?

Also when I connect my adsl splitter to the telephone I get huge packet loss, do you know anything about that?

Btw can you post the specifications of the 8mbps plan you are using? Like FUP limit, monthly charges, etc.

When u restart ur router...... the IP gets refreshed.... some IP range r better than others.... so it works well..... u need to find which IP range works best for u.....

Try another splitter and chk for pk loss......

am in MTNL Mumbai.... DSL-8Mbps-1690 plan...... 85GB FUP

So finding the best ip range is a random process? You have to restart your router multiple times to find the best ip range, or is there any custom way of doing that?

I tried my spare old splitter and the packet loss is still there.

Regarding your 8 mbps plan, isn't 85 gb too low for watching livestreams on high quality? I can finish that 85 gb in just 1 week or less by high quality watching videos.

u need to keep tabs on the 3rd IP block..... i.e. xxx.xxx.???.xxx ....... 3rd block ranges frm 0-127......

I divide them into "Green Zones" & "Red Zones"

For me Green Zone is....... 0-15 , 30-45 , 65-90 , 115-127 ......... Rest is Red Zone where there is pk loss & timeouts....

Anytime I get IP into Green zones..... there is no pk loss.... no timeouts..... & no speed problems...

If am not in the Green zone...... I refresh IP..... IP refreshes serially..... mine changes by 2 units/1 min.... so going through the full range of 0-127 will take just over an hr....

FUP limit depends on one's usage....... as per DU Meter my usage per day is 1.8-2.0GB....... another 400MB/day for mobile.... so total usage is 2.5GB/day..... 85GB FUP gives me 2.8GB/day....... so its more than enough for my usage...

Ok so I tried this trick. And got my 3rd block ip to 74, now the twitch streams are loading fine. But after 3-4 hours my internet went off for 1-2 seconds and I got a new ip, the 3rd block ip was number 205 and it started causing packet loss again. Thanks for this tip!

Btw how you came to know about this method/trick? Is there a more detailed version somewhere on the internet? I google'd about IP range and MTNL and found nothing useful. And is the best IP range different for everyone? Can you somehow find the best IP range for me?, I live in New-Delhi.

Also for some weird reason from yesterday I am getting 1.5-1.6 Mbps continuously. I should be getting 2+ Mbps.
