I have obtained a SIP number. (1) Can anyone dial my SIP number from a PSTN line. If not then how can it be done (2) Can anybody who has a SIP number (obtained from a different SIP number provider) dial me.Anil

it depends ... if the voip service provider of the other person is same as yours then he can probably call you by directly dialling your number free of cost and vice-versa. But even if someone is on another sip network he would be able to call you by prefixing a 'peering number' to your number. the list of peering numbers can be found here
find ur provider on the list and add the peering number to your sip number.. thats it
even if someone on a different sip network calls you by using a peering number.. the call still remains free, ie, the call remains free until it does not need need to hit pstn networks.

PSTN numbers can call VOIP numbers. But that will mean paying ISD rates if someone is in India. If someone is in US / UK / EU then it makes a lot of sense to call India with VOIP numbers I used to to save $$$ on calls. You get a US or UK number from VOIP and ask your Parents/ Spouse /GF to configure that number on some stable broadband connection. From US, you can call that number for cheap and it wont cost anything in India either.

Try ipkall.com get a seattle based number forwarded to your sip address. So if someone call ur seattle based number ur sip account will ring.

^that's what i've done with my VoipStunt account...it's awesome!!! 😀[/b]
1. I found that most of the time (7 out of 10 times) IPKall does not ring my SIP number, and directs caller to leave voice mail, although my SIP phone is not busy and logged on to SIP service provider. Any suggestions, or I have to live with it. After all it is a free service and beggars can not be choosers.

Did you get a SIP number from voipstunt.com. I have checked their web site and there is no mention of a SIP number. How do you direct IPkall to your voipstunt account.

have taken the sip number from IPKall...it's a normal Washington state number...unlike other SIP numbers with some code as prefix...and i never faced the problem of calls going to voice mail if my softphone is up and running...
