I have for the 1st Time be badly let down by BSNL contrary to what I wrote just yesterday that they have not as yet let me down.I got my bill for a New telephone which got connected on 24th March 2005 and was as good as unused till 23rd April 2005. Even then the bill for period ended 30th April 2005 was for 5000 bucks of calls. I am left aghast as that much usage cannot be there from my office in 6 months also.Besides that they have billed me for Broadband Annual ( Advance Rental ) Rs 5000 plus another Rs 7500 under the head of just Broadband.Has anyone else also got such a shock earlier ??I am taking the matter up with BSNL and shall get it sorted out but the basic inconvenience is what irritates most.Any suggestions about how I should go about it to get it sorted out. Last date for payment is 31st May 2005 and I reach Kolkata only on 30th May. I shall have to put my staff on the work so I need suggestions.

Ways2gain,

what is going on 😱 😱 😱

Besides that they have billed me for Broadband Annual ( Advance Rental ) Rs 5000 plus another Rs 7500 under the head of just Broadband.[/b]

Did you choose advance annual rental plan ? (if so that is correct)

But if you got the connection before 31Mar 2005, then there is NO data charges. It can only be Rs 500 per month(for 256k) till 30 June 2005.

So this Rs 7500 charge for broadband usage is WRONG

Dont pay the money. Getting it back as a credit will be a huge headache. Even if they disconnect, getting a new line from Airtel installed is only Rs 1000/- 😛

Yes, I chose the Adv Rental and so the Rs 5000 is OK but the Rs 7500 over and above that is the SHOCK. My connection is as fresh as 23rd April for Dataone and so I cant possibly exceed the limit for April by Rs 7500 in 7 days.Besdies I have been billed Rs 5000 for call charges which is also CRAZY.Kolkata does not have Airtel fully operatinal till now. It may take another 2-3 weeks for my locality.Any other suggestions to tackle BSNL as I need this number of mine as its a fancy number that I have.

Seems BSNL guys have gone mad, bharat!I have still not received any dataone bill till date.

Register with http://www.calcuttatelephones.com/. You will get your call details.

What do you mean by fancy number? As far as I know fancy numbers are chargeable.

Contact your nearest BSNL customer care center.

BSNL has orally agreed to send ( claims to have already sent ) revised bill where Rs 7500 is omitted. But they say Rs 5000 call charges is genuine. I shall have to contest that and that too hotly but I have a gut feel I shall loose to them. I need to be careful in the future I guess.Fancy number are chargable but I got them free from BSNL ( 2 numbers both ending with 6600 ). Infact I got the same number from Airtel ( last 4 digits 6600 ) for the landline service thay are launching in Kolkata and number was allotted to me a month back. No extra charge for it.Reliance dint have 6600 free in any of the 3 exchanges they have in Kolkata for WIRED landline so they gave me 3300 as the last 4 digits. No extra charge here also. BSNL has basically made that up by billing me excess in he first bill and taken me nicely. As I am travelling till the month end I am not able to do much by remote control but once I reach Kolkata I shall try to get it sorted out.I shall definitely appraise you all about it and how justice was given or not given. But atleast they have agreed that Rs 7500 was their fault but let me wait for their Revised Bill to reach me.

In my case, my first bill incorporating dataone charges came this month. It listed Rs.500 as rental for broadband - no mention for which month. The other charges are the call charges and service tax etc. After addng up all the charges mentioned, I saw that the Net payable listed is Rs.1000 more than the charges detailed in the bill. No mention of what constitutes that Rs.1000 not detailed there. On the other hand, they did not charge for the modem (Rs.2000) or the advance rental (Rs.5000) which I opted for. When my dad contacted the tel. exchange, they could not give a satisfactory reply and told him to contact the AOTR for billing details. I am yet to contact him. But this arbitrary billing is a cause of concern.

Did you convert from DIAS to Dataone and if so then they may waive off the Installation Rs 500 which they charge. Rs 2000 for the modem no being charges is a surprise ( I think this problem was there in the billing system but may be again this is waived for those who convert from DIAS to Dataone.Rs 1000 extra is a surprise if there is no head for it. They dont usually mak such mistakes.Annual package billing was goof up by them for initial connections as they dint know that it was there and so everyone was univesally put under monthly. If you follow them up then they shall convert you to Annual now. This is what I was told when I got my bill for my first Dataone connection which was a conversion from DIAS. I dont think they billed me for modem or for installation as it was a conversion. I can only be sure once I reach base and see the records ( though I doubt if my memory is that bad but its safer to cross check and comment ).

I didn't convert from DIAS to DataOne. Its a fresh Dataone subscription. By the way, whom did you contact to sort out the billing details? I sent an email to the address kolkata1@dataone.in , which is supposed to the the dataone customer-service email address for kolkata, detailing the billing problem. No reply till date.

They dont reply to emails I have also observed. My staff must have contacted the AOTR Billing ( i shall know for sure afte I reach Kolkata ).If I dont get response I shall contact one of the GMs ( not Broadband ) and if I fail there then I shall get one of the Directors or the Chairman himself to intervene. These steps shall be taken only if I am convinced I am not in the wrong.

Go on guys !I dunno what's there in my bill, still not received one till date....I hope it'll be fine...

Due to billing software problem in Calcutta Telephones, there are a substantial number of Dataone bills are erroneous. The billing department has sent the list of erroneous bills to the respective Office of the Area Manager. They are sending the revised bills by courier. The due date for the bill has also been extended for them (which is mentioned in the revised bill). But this does not necessarily mean that your bill is also erroneous. Please contact your Area Manager Office or AOTR (Accounts Officer Telecom Revenue) for clarification.

Actually, what happened, in the bill the total charges of Broadband is given once and the brake-up for the same is also given. When making the grand total, these were counted twice. This is a software error.

One more thing, fancy number for BSNL mobile (ie, cellone and excel) are chargable, not landline numbers. I made a mistake. Sorry.

Have you checked your call details by registering with www.calcuttatelephones.com ?

You can also use dynamic locking for restricting your calls.
