Nice to find out from you about the reasonably good service provided by Exatt.

Exatt's international bandwidth-gateway is from Airtel, located in Santhome, Chennai. So all the movies you are downloading passes by near here 😛

But Exatt is yet to offer their service in Chennai 🙁

hey.. i m on exatt.. lately i m facing some browsing probs in the night.. from like 7pm o somettin its really really slow... the dload speed is okay ( 14k ) which is wat i pay for.. but the browsing is awfully slow.. wen i called them they say its the cable wallahs prob and wen i ask the cable guy they say its exatt's problemm.. so now i m stuck .. not knwing wat to do ..wat do u guys think .. ?btw the next morning approx 7-8am ( earliest i;ve cheked) it becomes proper..its really funy and weirddd!

well if can download upto 14 kbps then there isnt much to complain about is there...?? problem cannot be justified

hey.. u dint get my prob ... its sometin of a packet loss issue.. if i do a speedtest at those times i get very low value..and get request timed out wen i ping..its dazzles me.. !

hmm....its not a exacttnet problem..could be a fault in the local infrasctructure setup. report this to your cable operator and have it fixed. recommended that you take a screenshot of the ping stats that show request timeout and also the bandwidth test . maybe something can be sorted out then

hey.. finally got thru them and they say that its the wire problem .. they say that in the night it cools down and packets are lost.. they are now planning to replace the wire which will surely take atleast 4-5 days... that suckshope it wurks after replacement... bcoz it really wurks wel in the day time no complaints ther at all ...

 I thot the days of using cheap cat6 / cat5e were past us.... what a sad state of affairs!! cable that actually works based on the weather.. can u note the manufacturer name, its written along the length of the cable... see if there is an ISI or an ISO certification with a number... highly probable that your CTO might be bullshitting you.

Yeah....truly surprising..cat5 cable depending on weather conditions

its a DELTAFORCE cable which is setup... used to wurk fine.. i m using it since 3 years nw...

Exatt sometimes has problems with XP's driver for some reason. Try downloading cfosspeed ( http://www.cfos.de/download/download_e.htm ). It's a driver that will install itself over the XP traffic shaping driver. Not Microsoft certified of course, but I had the same problems you're facing with exatt and since I installed cfosspeed, my speeds have returned to normal. I've been using cfosspeed for the past month or so. It's a great little tool for traffic shaping. My speeds have significantly increased by a good 4 KB/s

your cable wallah is surely bullshitting you,I had similar problems with many of my past cable wallahs

Well to start with most of these problems are due to faulty or poor standard equipment used .

1.check if your cable wallah is using 2 pair or 4 pair cat5e cable for main line ,if using 2 pair ask him to change it to 4 pair cos 2 pair is ment only for last distribution to desktop and not hub to hub or hub or to switch also check the distance from last hub or switch to your desktop ,it should not be more than 80 to 90 m(max 100 m).If more try taking a shorter route or ask him to use a hub/switch in b/w.

2.Try convincing your cable wallah to use a switch(possibly of a good quality like Netgear or D-Link) instead of hub as last distribution point.Actually there should be switch after every 2 or 3 hubs.

3.Your cable wallah needs to check all hubs and switches from the last Ok connection to your desktop for any possible sourse of collagens. If not solved request customer care at exatt to send somebody to check them.Well actually when i was with sify they used to send there engineer to my place ,who used to bring a laptop with them
to check these things as it really helps. Not sure if exatt offers this service.

4.Ask your neighbours from same hub or switch if they are having similar problems ,if not then the only thing to be done is to change your cat5e cable or your lan card.

5.Last but not the least use a good quality firewall like outpost / kerio /zonealarm .check the logs and if you find some ips costantly bothering your firewall ,complain about the same to your cable wallah or exatt, well many a times some stupid persons unknowingly leak viruses into network or are uploading too much due to faulty LAN cards or OS.

Now the reason why such problems appear mostly at night is

1.Heavy traffic at night
2.Your cable wallah is attending to similar complaints from your neighbours at day time(like faulty switches etc, many a time switch needs only a restart to function normally again) but he has no staff at night.

3.some body using intranet sharing at night it sucks bigtime.

If these problems are not sorted out quickly then they will definately appear even during day time ,I am sure then your cable wallah will definately act fast then.

thanks for yr reply man..! he has just sorted the issue at the moment.. i mean its wurkin all rite.. now.. but i knw how it will wurk later.. its no point arguing wid them coz they really dont knw much and also if they do in my area no1 else offers LAN .. so i pretty much dont have a choice .... just haveta hope he gets better ...

now that i see your avatar...you are they guy who stole my release from idesir and posted it on desitorrents without giving credits . grr!!!

i dunno man why ppl keep thinking that 3 other ppl told me the same... my college frnd gave me a BOT link on IRC... i got banned frm ther(id****) for no reason .?! coz of him.. sorry for that but it was not not my fault.. i hope u understand.. extremely sorry again..

Just one question......whenever I use that built-in Windows dialer, every time I have to go to "Fine Access Concentrator", and "Creat dial-up" connection.....How do I avoid this???Secondly, does Exatt have I dialer that I can use...If yes....how do I go about setting it up?Thanx...
