"Internet for the Impatient, that's what is mentioned on their website, and since tata indicom made me wait 16 days before telling me that the connection was not possible because my house was too far, and also because i hate bsnl's datacaps, i was left with only one dsl provider - airtel. So, since i ha no other choice i decided to give it a go. The following lines will prove that it is internet for the impatient -

Day 1, 1800 hrs - Call up airtel, ask them to send an executive to my place.
Day 1, 2100 hrs - Executive comes, i have to fill up no less than four forms, but skip most details
Day 2, 1000 hrs - Wiring team arrives, all wiring done is very neat, concealed with plastic beadings in my house, and underground outside, wire is cut and joint at one place and i counted 7 layers of insulation.
Day 2, 1700 hrs - Wiring Team Leaves
Day 2, 2000 hrs - Line check team arrives, line working perfectly
Day 3, 1200 hrs - Connection up and running.

As you can see, everything was done in a little over 48 hours, the best part is altough you may call my connection expensive (Rs. 900 per month for 128 kbps), there are no datacaps and speed has never yet gone below 110 kbps, so altough i had my reservations before buying, everything's working great.

Seems good and interesting too !

Was curious to know how good the service was in the Bangalore area. They seem to be offering (expiring end of May)64 K unlimited @Rs.699/month128 K unlimited @Rs.999/monthNo quotas at all nor Line rental + equipment etc. The figures quoted were flat rates/month. From reading other posts, the USB modem is not such a good option because of firmware, el cheapo equipment etc. I wonder if its possible to get them to throw in a ethernet modem/router in instead.Sify did a roundabout turn on the unlimited bandwidth. BSNL is charging extra as well.Airtel can do the same too after a while, and if one is not happy they will tell you to go elsewhere. For those that are using Airtel, what would you say downtime/month on average was ?

I'm curious to know how much can be downloaded in a month with Airtel.

I'm currently limited to about 35k, thats approx 6GB/month with a laptop connected 24x7. Given Airtel's advertisement of 128k, works out to 15kB/s. Since its ATM over phone, reduces it to 12kB/s

so 18Gb per month is the figure one can expect to get ?

Will Airtel allow this for long ? I asked the salesman that and he said only a few users has such a "habit" 😉

Are there any longtime Airtel users that have managed to get a sustained 10-18GB/month with Airtel ? I guess long here is upto 6 months.

I'm a bit wary of switching from the local cable wallah to someone else just yet, as i've got consistant service for the last cpl of yrs from them, they are only 80% reliable, but they are local, and i know them pretty well by now as opposed to calling a helpline located in another part of the country.

Besides if Airtel pulls a Sify i'm stuck with half what i get per month currently.

well we got 2 lines of 128kbps and i am quite sure we use it very well around here. never had any problems from the airtel side that we were using the net too much.

i am using airtel/touchtel for the last 2 years. but for the road digging by the city corporation, i never had any disconnection. the speed is steady and consistent.
especially their 24 x 7 CC is excellent. B)

and the best thing is that they actually understand what we say. not like those madrasis at sify. they r of no use  ps : i dont intend to insuld my chennai frnds here. its only these call centre people

i must tell u, it's real pain man!!! u tell them something, they understand something else...and then the reply, those same pet phrases... 😉
