So... An Airtel Broadband plan that is worth getting for backup?

there is a 8mbps upto 80gb for 2300.. granted it is expensive but like fusion says if it gives 8.5 till usa then i will willing to try it out. everything will be super smooth if we can hit 8 all the way 🙂
rt now i am on 150gb vdsl at2300.. i can live with 80gb though i wont be ecstatic abt the fup reduction.
mtnl's 10mbps is at best 2-3 for streaming. no use of higher fup unless u intend to torrent everything. i hate doing that for everything coz then i have to plan in advance what to watch n then download n keep n what not.
as for the 24mbps and all its absolute useless..no website ever streams at tht neither will we ever achieve those speeds for any practical use.

yea Rs.2300 is expensive...... I mean I rly cant shift to tht plan..... I havnt even shifted to MTNL's 1750 plan yet...... still on 1690 to keep parents happy...

Still need to see an actual speedtest to NY to confirm the speeds........ Hopefully fusion can post it soon....

Sorry for the delay. Will be in Gurgaon house tomm. Will check it out n let u know for sure.

Update : Latency is high as expected but speeds to Buffalo, NY were pretty good.
Ping : 316 ms
Download Speed : 8.05 Mbps
Upload Speed : 0.77 Mbps

I think they are making it mandatory to "take" a router/modem unit for DSL lines. I shifted to Gurgaon, and mid-November got an Airtel connection -the- 80GB / 4 mbps plan. The installation engineer came with a D-Link ( DSL 2730-U) unit, which he said I have to take, and not use if I have my own set - up. They charged RS. 1000 for installation, which was adjusted in the first bill. The connection seems to be fine and quite stable. Once in a while I notice the router re-negotiating with the servers and I get a new IP address. It results in a line drop. Not sure why this happens, but is really rare.

Side Note:
Upon installing the splitter, the engineer did something weird. He pulled out this glue stick, melted it a bit with a cigarette lighter and fused the RJ11 nodes to the splitter, by applying the melted glue to where they were inserted. The input wire and the two outputs for the modem and router respectively. I wonder why he did that. Later on, I wanted to extend my cables to a better point (the initial set up was at a specific wall node, since I stay in condo high-rise and the internal wires are fixed) so had to buy RJ11 joiners and extend the cable ~10-12 meters to a better point. Since the RJ11 joiners are stuck forever. Only thing I can probably do, is cut them off, and re-crimp..!

He did this to mitigate signal loss.
