i was amased at the way they have termed the heavy users as useless people

"Why do you limit the amount of data I can download ?
BNSL aims to provide fast, reliable service to all the broadband customers. Some customers try to hog disproportionate amount of available resources. Customers might select lower end plans for heavy work or make excessive use of peer-to-peer file sharing. This could result in 20% users using over 80% resources. High levels of usage by a small number of users risks reduced performance for all users. BSNL has the following options to solve this problem : 1. Lower the contention ratio 2. Provide more resources and increase the prices 3. Set download limits The first two options are not fair to 80% users who use the resources sensibly. As such setting dowonload limits was the best and fair solution. If any user requires higher limit he/she can upgrade to higher plan."

so please comment on this ?

Why do you call yourself broadband? Another nice question to ask them....

The tone is quite insulting. ADSL providers abroad do not even mention data limit. In most cases it is assumed that data transfer will be unlimited. However, I don't have any objection to setting data transfer limits. A limit of 30GB / month would be enough for me. 😉

u r letting them off cheaply with a 30 GB limit. But let me cross check abroad if they dont set limits at all and what they charge for that.

Is there any Broadband Provider Abroad without DataCaps. Hey Guys please check it out and then grouse.cheers

My frnd abroad subscribes to Earthlink. They provide unlimited connection. I am quoting my earlier post below:-
One of my friend staying at US and I just asked him. He is a subscriber of Earthlink and he gave me the following link for the DSL Connection (seems actually to be an ADSL connection but they call it DSL anyway) that he has subscribed to - http://www.earthlink.net/highspeed/pricing/

It seems for the Earthlink Basic DSL option, the speed is 384 downlink and 128 uplink.

Read the fineprint too. They also bundle webspace etc. $40 per month (first 6 months $20) is not a bad deal. Nothing mentioned about data transfer limit - I guess they can't imagine having a data transfer limit  since they compared the pricing with an unlimited plan. My frnd said that it was unlimited. Price is almost the same considering the additional things offered in US. The only problem is the data transfer limit.

After 6 months their rates are 40 USD and u r bound to be with them for 12 months as I read it.DSL Offer available to select new EarthLink High Speed subscribers only.Service not available in all areas.Other restrictions may apply.Simultaneous usage is not included in your regular monthly service fee, so you are charged for the extra access.These were few of the terms aind conditions.

they don't mention a data cap abroad sometimes but they do have an "acceptable use" policy... if someone is downloading at full speed 24x7 then they WILL get a letter from the ISP telling/warning them to stop or else get disconnected...

It cannot be tht simple, I am sure they must be setting some sort of a cap because at those speeds the bandwidth ( transfers ) can be really high. DO note even Server space of websites have limits of bandwidth and any amount exceeded is billed for separately ( my site often over shoots the bandwidth I have ).Let me do some more finding out on this subject.
