Broadband scene in India is really sad. UK can have it, there Broadband is mainstream (look at all those plans, 24mbps Unlimited, are you kidding me?!).I don't think we need a directory like that, I don't think we *could* even have a directory like that (I mean ISP with basically 256 unlm? Except TATA and Government ISP's, which have gone further?) India needs to get some broadband first, which will take another decade or so, maybe then.
 
Lets not discuss speeds like 24 Mbps. It really pains my heart. Lets discuss Mr. Moron's ( Our IT Minister ) unlimited broadband. 1 GB data transfer ! Wow ! Thats like so many mbs and a lot more kbs.
 
The broadband scene in the UK isn't anything different than that of our own. Until about two years back there wasn't any plan like what is there now on that page. Most of them still when compared to other European countries is pretty unspectacular. But if the UK can change for the better i hope our country will do so too.

its not like that bihar has this thing, lets introduce in utter pradesh also.
don't dream to compare India and UK, untll Whole Indian politicians are cleaned with acid...that to have doubt.
 
i think my bills have massive errors but i cannot prove them coz the problems are due to excessive number of calls made from the phone 😛

i expecting ur same tongue out " ": P" " to see the day when u start geting an zero extra in your Airtel bills, or get 10K bill the month ur out-of-city and nobody used ur phone or internet.

Whatever is being implied by this post, I can give you guys in written, we're not getting some real unlimited broadband for 'A LOT' of time to come.
Only way to hurry the process is by having an International private player realise the potential in Indian Broadband market and start some form of a 'Plan Revolution'. Its quite evident unless that happens, we're gonna be stuck (specially you airtel guys, I'm going Tata next month) on 256 and 2mbps cappedness for a good while.
 
I dont want paste the internet speeds and rates offered in S. Korea....it will put UK to shame and will give us all sleepless nights. Nothing in india is going to happen for few more years to come. We keep talking about the mobile revolution in our country but we fail to understand that fewer than five in 100 people own a mobile handset in India, according to BBC, (lets not talk about absolute numbers 'cause we have a huge poplution, rather look at the percentage of the population with mobile phones), teledensity, or ratio of phones to population, is at 17.16 percent, according to the TRAI (this includes moblies as well as landlines in india). and stands at 13 percent for mobile phones. In terms of numbers, India has only 136 million users compared to China's 447 million mobile phone users. Across the European Union (EU) as a whole, mobile phone penetration has reached almost 95 per cent (for the yr 2006), hitting 100 per cent in eight member states, according to a new report from the European Commission on European electronic communications regulation and markets. Australia is 90.1% and soon to touch 100%. North America has 73% penetration rates, Latin american has 50% penetration rates, Russia is 68%. According to the business week, the Israelis, the Singaporeans. the Taiwanese. and the Hong Kongers have hit the 100% mark. Africa has 15% penetration. which is higher than india..........we have a very long long way to go. If this is the penetration rate of mobile phones in india, broadband is a distant dream. And according to a report by Forrester, urban India has only a 3.5 per cent adoption rate (internet) among its top three socio-economic classes. This is against a penetration of 62 per cent in South Korea, Hong Kong at 57 per cent, Japan at 67%. Taiwan at 60%, Singapore at 66%. Metropolitan China, has internet penetration rates of 43 per cent....Surprise Pakistan is at 7%Not to worry, we are at par with countries like bostwana 3.2%, comoros 2.9%, bhutan 3.1%, gabon 4.6%, gambia 3.2%, libya 3.3%, namibia 3.6%, nigera 3.1% and so on. Based on my experience with BT in UK, "unlimited" broadband is not available in UK that easily either. I was on a unlimited 512 kbps plan, but BT cancelled my plan once downloads stated crossing 5 GB i na month.

Things are much better now a days but nothing like other EU countries.
 
^if that makes you feel better in any way, sure. But I know BT is not the only ISP and right now I could dig up ISP's that provide 10mbps+ unlm. And its about time people stop reassuring themselves that the broadband scene right now in India is 'normal'. its not, we (our ISP management body) sucks and that's a fact. China's BB growth is an example of the fact India is a failure here and will remain that way unless there is a major management overhaul (international players coming to India, or an elected government that knows people want some broadband).
 
^^Yeah rightly said....Its about time we stop begging for better speeds too......It aint gonna take us anywhere...
