Super Value Titanium Credit Card – Standard Chartered Bank India

Earn 5% cash back on all fuel you buy at petrol pumps in India
Receive 5 % cash back on telecom payments from all service providers with the Super Value Titanium Card
5% Cash back on electricity, gas and water bills paid for with your Super Value Titanium Card
We give you 1 reward point for every Rs.100 you spend on all other categories

Standard Chartered Titanium
I only use it to pay my fuel and phone bills. I use my other card for other expenses 🙂

There are a couple of crap points.

It only works on payments above Rs. 750.
On petrol pumps, you end up getting 2.5% coz they deduct the surcharge from the 5%. So I avoid paying for bike petrol using the card. It does not go above Rs. 500.
Plus there are some other conditions...

I no longer own a bike and my phone bill is around 1k a month 🙂
Card is life time free and therefore I have nothing to loose.
I have got so frustrated by SC services in last few months that i reached on the verge of closing the card but then I realized I have nothing to loose 🙂

Annual Fees of Rs.750 & Joining fee of Rs.500 is there ? Does it work on all Utility bill, it works? We have TNEB for electricity. Is that covered. I guess with that even then, I believe TNEB charges for credit card payments, just like your petrol pump guys. So I need to do the math, even before I even think about applying for this one.

Apparently v1rus and me got it at a time when it was offered for free. I dumped my StanChart bank account (me and mom's) last year but I retained this card. It is apparently quite hard to get now as they do not offer it easily. Since I do not pay anything for it, it ends up saving me some money every year.

Dont you get random calls, that sell you credit cards?
Usually they have schemes to issue you cards for free, but do take their offers with a pinch of salt

As for the utility bills... I have stopped bothering about checking. Earlier they used to give cashback instantly. I mean the funds were back in your account after a day or two. They changed that few months ago. Now your cashback gets accumulated in a different account like reward points. And you have to manually credit them back to your account or something like that. It's annoying really.

I am on DND list.. Its extremely rare that I get telemarketing calls.. In fact, even SMS have gone down a lot thankfully.. Its now down to 1-2 SMS per month & maybe a call in a month.

Maybe should not think of getting it after all, also I think I have just 1 credit card, that too because of backup purposes... I am scared of getting caught in the impulsive purchaser cycle...

No harm in applying for the same and trying to bargain for the charges. It is an excellent card to have if you can get it for free. If you can use it properly, even paying would not hurt much. If you spend a lot using your card, you can easily cover up the charges. Especially if you are already paying for your existing card that does not have comparable benefits.

The only reason I am having this card because its free... I threatened to close, every time they put an annual fee.. and finally told them, if they ever charged me annual fee again...I wont even consider retaining it.. and since then (must be 3-4 years) there have been no charges.
I doubt I will be able to make 60k worth of payments in card bills annually. EB, BSNL bills might help as they would be more than 5k per month average across the year, but I also think they put a service charge which moots the whole point of using this card..
