Dear All, As everybody knows that MTNL has launched 2MBPS plan, everybody is leaping up to get 2 MBPS speed. Here are some points you have to check before taking conection 1. its 2 MBPS, so please ask for CONTENTION RATIO.. u'll get 2 MBPS only if the contention ratio is 1:1, if its not, then divide 2048 kb with the ratio Example... Effective Speed in 2mbps if contention ratio iis 1:2 2 MBPS = 2048 Kb (1 MB = 1024 kb) if contention ratio is 1:2 then speed = 2048*1 then divide it by 2 = 1024 it means that u'll get the speed between 1024 kbps (1 MB to 2 MB per second)2. Ask that is it unlimited data transfer or is there any limit?? u'll use a lot of data being on high bandwidth. As far as i have studied on these details, my knowledge about 2 MBPS plan is : 1. Contention ratio will be 1:8 which means u'll get minimum speed as 256 Kbps (calculate on the basis of above formula) & it MAY go upto 2 MBPS which, i think, will never happen because of load on servers, so u'll get speeds not more than 500-600 KBPS for which, u'll pay the Monthly rental according to the 2 MBPS plan.2. The free data transfer u'll get is only 200 MB.. which is very less.... Suppose, if you are the only person logged on the whole network (Which is nearly impossible), 200 MB free data transfer will be spent in just 15 Minutes & u'll have to pay for rest of data transfer usage for rest 29 days 23 hours & 45 minutes... u can calculate it yourself how much it would be.So, Be proactive, ask for all details, then only take any service from any service provider otherwise u'll lose a lot of money & will get nothing.

So you expect promotion from ur boss by doing this!!!

What?????? Dude, i'm doing this to warn people so that they will not get in something they don't know about & lose their money. If my boss would know that i'm opening forum websites while on work, i'll have my ass kicked so hard that it'll be divided in 2 more parts.......

What the hell are you talking about? You work for AirTel? i think you better go learn you bits and bytes son.

1 KiloByte(KB)=8 Kilobits(Kb), Hence 1024Kbps=~130KB/s and not 1MB/s. MTNL is providing 2 Megabit(Mb/s) not 2 Megabyte(MB/s).

No wonder you classify 25 MB/Second as T1/LAN.

As to the rest of your post. I DON'T CARE!

BTW Airtel Buddie...... Are you an airtel employee ? If no, then that's a stupid nick name. If yes then stop spamming 😛As far as rest of your post goes, the speeds have been upgraded to 2mbps(connectivity) mathematically download speeds should be 256 KB/s(tranfer rate). And from what i have gathered from users whom i know personally they are getting speeds between 150-220 KB/s.Yes i know that the limits on these plans are ridiculous 200mb-400mb. But atleast they have taken the initiative of introducing true boradband speeds so to speak. It will take some time for things to be regularised and for unlimited plans to come out. But they will come.Meanwhile Airtel are just sitting on their asses and providing their users with lesser speeds than what is promised according to the plans (mine is 256kbps, and i get between 90-140kbps). So this cleary sucks 🙁

No issue, Buy it, Use it, U'll come to know... i already had the previlage to be a BSNL customer & taught a good lesson for lifetime. i WAS working with airtel but i left airtel 1 month back & now working with Tech mahindra.

thanx for the information Airtel buddie, but the experience of my friends of MTNL @ 2 MBPS in delhi as well as in Mumbai -1. Most of them get between 1.800 MBPS - 2 MBPS2. Connection is quite constant, with hardly any disconnection (from the people who r accidently upgarded to 2 MBPS. who werer not eligible at all - the Unlimited Users)3. All together - NO PROBLEMO AT ALL - except that the people who r on volume based plans, r in a jiff...

rofl contention ratio ... dude u make me laugh with ur absurd warnings (errmm..) as far as i hav experienced 2mbit connection at my frnds place... he gets full speeds i.e. (200+kbytes) as 'karan s' rightly said .... first go learn abt bits/bytes etc... n then post......and reading the comments (or laments?) of airtel customers on this forum.... we all r better off with triband n dont need stupid airtel .... farewell airtel buddie!

hmmm ..............BTW T1 is not 25mBps...its not even 25mbps............its 1.544Mbps and T3 is 44.736Mbps...ur 25mbps lan falls somewhere in between.@bhargavdude u can say airtel suks.......it has unlimited plan which mtnl customers hv been longing for, for quite some time now. Moreover the 2Mbps speed u boast about is on capped plan which is as good as useless to for us computer junkies.Adding to the misery mtnl has fcuked up its image of actually giving 256kbps in a 256kbps plani'm not saying that airtel's the best...or airtel is better.....i myself am fed up with lousy speeds they'r providing these days....but wot i'm trying to say is that mtnl is no better!!!!!

I totaaly agrre with Mystery. I run my pc 24x7 so i need an unlimited plan. As Mtnl's 256 unlimited plan is more expensive than airtel's i'm sticking with them. Also in the hope that they might fix the current speed issues and increase speeds at the same time.More so over, it makes no sense to spend 2800 Rs on a mtnl connection.

Dude, I think that u've never scored more than "0" in maths subject in ur schooling.... Or U need to Brush Up ur Computer Knowledge not only about Bits n Bytes but Enitrely also...

1 byte = 8 bits I agree

1 Kb (Kilo bit) = 1024 b (bits), (kilo = 1024 in computer norms)

Each N Every ISP is providing Speeds in Kb or Mb (mega bits) per second. so, 1 Mb = 1024 kb (kilo bits)

So, Grandson, Go n read basic Computer books again

I agree that "2MB" is a typographical error in this post so read it as 2Mb from now on.

thats y i posted this thread because 90% ppl don't know what they are using & what are the standards... they only talk & whine about better services more speed & want everything FREE....

i hate to interrupt ur squabble here but yaar i don seem to find anything wrong up there ^^^^^ apart frm the approximation of 2 kBps..........cud u plz throw some light on the "wrong" part .....plz 🙂 🙂

Took you the better part of a day to brush up your knowledge did it? Lets leave the education bit out here... we know how well you know your "Math" and your computing even for that matter...

convenient to call it "typographical" now isn't it.

I somewhat agree on the first part of that point.

Wanna pick apart anything else now?

Guys in data communication 1 kilobit = 1000 bits, while in data storage 1 Kilobyte = 1024 Bytes. Read more here- [codebox]http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=115[/codebox]
