880 is mY friends Modem

Can You solve this

I have sone some research on the subject. It seems that ur modem needs to be reset to factory settings or if u can do the settings of the modem urself thru their guide then its fine. Its probably got some old user name embedded inside it and that needs to be replaced with urs or just deleted.Best is to ask BSNL to do it for you. Their guys are pretty helpful in Kolkata atleast in both exchanges I am using in Kolkata ( at resi and off ).

hari rajesh, i was having similar problems starting saturday at 145am , called the BSNL call center, apparently they're (were) doing some server upgrades until 830am on sat... this is in bangalore indranagar and a couple of other exchanges... maybe your area is also going thru that... try after 12 hrs, if its not already up...but yeah, try the reset modem and dial with your correct user/password... first

Addendum ------Pls let us know what made u succeed after it starts to work so that we know the trouble point for future.

just a case of misconfigured router/modem. might be also plagued by technical maintainance. but if one of the modems is working, then it's sheer misconfiguration. fire 192.168.1.1 in your browser and get the settings configured by a respectable computer (broadband) technician in your area to save urself from fried router/modem. do u get it ?? comments are welcome.

Why does he not try to give his freind his modem and keep the freinds one with him. That will also be a good test as to what is wrong and where.

I am sure that you won't like swapping your modem with my one when your's is working and my modem is not working. I hope u get the point. As the topic starter is a newbie, he has to search for a "respectable" tech to configure the modem.

Swapping is fine if boths guys systems start to work. I always help my FREINDS while may be his freind may have a different attitude.Anyways, sorry for the bad suggestion. Ill mind myself in future. Hey Moderator, I hope u wont ban me for such a bad suggestion.

Go on helping others with this attitude and you might go bankrupt within 2 days and not Reliance ! Anyway, I think you are a kind one at heart.

Well, I have not yet gone bankrupt in so many years and if my deeds are good then God cant be on the other side. I am sure he will support my cause too. I have faith in MYSELF.

this error message can be coz of several reasons.Error 678: remote computer did not respond.. * try connecting again.. * unplug all the cables frm the back of the modem and connect them back again.. try connecting.. * check of there r any firewalls.. it usually gives this error.. *create a new PPPoE connection..delete the existing one ofcourse.. *also always remember that in the pppoe connection.. the user should be.. always allow others to use this connection..if it is on me only it gives this error ..

Error 678 happened 3 or 4 times in my case too within the past 2 months. Most likely, the problem was with the local exchange as others in the area experienced the problem at the same time. In one instance it lasted for 2 days (when the BSNL strike was on). Usually its rectified within a few hrs. The other reasons prompted by the system are unlikely to be the cause if no settings have been changed in the meantime.
