Inspite of being a leading country in the field of IT, the condition of broadband in India is very poor. Almost every member of this forum has broadband connection at home, but no one of them is satisfied with his internet connection, I see lot of people discussing about their problems in this forum, that reveals the poor condition of Indian broadband services.

None of the telecom companies in India is satisfying their customers. Customers with Unlimited plan complain of not getting 2 Mbps speed, customers having night unlimited plan want more download limit during the day, airtel cusomers want speed upgradation, customers of LAN connection are facing problem of slowing down server, Companies offering high speed take high charges that are not affordable, User having connection of Tata moves to airtel then to reliance then to MTNL then to Sify, but nowhere he get satisfaction. So every internet user is facing problem.

"India mein internet use karna to aafat mol lena hai. pata nahin yaar wo din kab aayega jab hum affordable prices par high speed par unlimited surfing karenge aur hume bar bar company change karne ke jhanjhat se mukti milegi, Mujhe nahin lagta ki agle 10 salo mein bhi wo din aayega"

The quick way i see out of this situation is to unbundle the local loop. Till the year 2001, situation was similar in UK (better than ours though). BT had monopoly over tel lines, there was hardly any competition and UK was laggin far behind in BB when compared to US and other european nations. Unbundling became effective 1st Jan 2001 and today situation is much better there with some ISP's offering speeds as high as 24 Mbps.THerefore, the panacea for Indian BB seems to be the opening up of the thousands of miles of copper loop which state giants BSNL and MTNL are sitting over and aggresively protecting.

When Japan and other countries will reach 100 Gbps 😛 .

I doubt bandwidths will increase by unbundling of local loops only. What about the local loop being provided through LAN like in the case of companies like Sify. They still hold on to all the bandwidth at their gateway servers even with competition in who provides the local loop.I have a feeling the government needs to check massive monopolistic practices by these companies in providing bandwidth at the backbone level all the way upto the international gateways and submarine cable landing points. Someone on these forums had once pointed out a report by a US trade agency which had alleged that Tata/VSNL which has control over most of the international gateways in India was selling bandwidth at hiked rates and being uncompetitive. I sense a huge scam here.

U r right. Customer here r treated like sh... Also a lot of people get satisfied v easily, I know of people who still say dial--up speed is "OK for me as I only check my email @ home" what can u say to such people. I guess u cant describe colour to a blind person. I wish MTNL would allow 'carry forward' of unused bandwidth.

the saddest part is that they've not even implemented the 2 mbps to all their customers which our hon'ble minister promised... 🙁
