70 Mbps?! I don't know who was smoking what.... when they said that at gadgetguru

Wimax definitely has the potential to propel broadband connectivity in india once it takes off. Imo the real push will come once the private telecom companies start offering broadband (wimax) at reasonable rates. Once that happens majority of the people will simply connect to the broadband via their mobile. This in turn will put massive pressure on bsnl and mtnl to come up with high speeds and unlimited plans if they have to stay in the market.

WAIT FOR WIMAX TO COME TO INDIA AND THIS DREAM WILL COME TRUE .THEY HAVE PROMISED 70MBPS SAW THIS ON GADGET GURU NDTV PROFIT[/b]

70 mbps is therortical maximum like in adsl(airtel/bsnl/mtnl current platform) it is 8 mbps maximum so do they offer 8 mbps? No they cap the line at 2mbps or just 256k(for unlimited) !!
Even if they offer 8 mbps and we get 4-6mbps line rate(max speed of line) depending on exchange distance, wiring condition , modem etc etc then also what cud it do when there is no bandwidth available from gateway to feed this capacity!!
I think slow speed due to clogged gateway because of earthquake is still fresh in everyone's mind!!

Wanna know what is international bandwidth price
Check this

What will wimax do when we don't have bandwidth to feed it!! Lol don't go with media hype!!

Dikhawa pe mat Jao appnee akaal lagaao!! 😛

Woah! Very cool link B) At the rate of around Rs. 20,000 per mbps per month is it any wonder why MTNL won't give us 2 mbps as unlimited? But still this isn't the real price of international bandwidth I would say. It's the rate at which VSNL and Reliance are selling bandwidth to MTNL. The rates at which they buy bandwidth themselves would be the price of international bandwidth and interesting to see. Got any links for the same 😉 ? We should in India atleast look towards getting speeds of over 1 mbps unlimited at Rs. 1600 like they do in the US for eg. India doesn't seem to lack international data pipes. Reliance itself now owns the whole Flag submarine cable network connecting a 100 or so countries. Then why such hiked prices for bandwidth? The government/regulator should seriously step in now. It's high time.

That's exactly the reason why bandwidth cost is so high in the country. Vsnl , bharti , flag etc have the monopoly when it comes to selling bandwidth in the country and the DOT is working towards regulating it and opening it up for small and private operators too . This way the bandwidth can be bought directly by private operators which will result in a fall of the current prices.
