No, movie channels are dynamic customer biz.

With a single inventory of content, a provider can run multiple channels.

Viewers do not follow any particular channel. They watch the channel that shows their choice of movie at that time. So its sort of a necessity that one has multiple movie channels.

True. But these 1-2 months, they are not able to show any movies in prime time because of IPL. Maybe they are losing opportunity there & hence want to make sure they are able to show some premiers & stuff...

I hope government make any law to broadcast at least 60% new content which was not broadcast on any Indian channel.
Then channels like Star Utsav and Zee Anmol would have never got license. These channels are launched only to re-run old content in FTA mode.

But on a serious note, makes me wonder whether they have enough content that warrants a second movie channel. I suspect its to try & retain the "movie" audience that gets lost due to IPL in Hindi telecast.
As mentioned by ChaiBiskutBhai, just to get more audience they are launching multiple movie channels, like STAR has Movies OK, and ZEE has &Pictures.
Now Sony will have MAX2, to get more audience. I am sure IPL has nothing to do with this new movie channel. In fact Sony should have stopped broadcasting IPL on MAX after having dedicated Sports channel from this year.

I think Sony did a small mistake here.
They should have launched IPL on Max 2 instead of Max to make people want to watch it as well as for operators to provide it.
Also, no movie can match the viewership that IPL generates, so Sony is basically laughing to the bank with IPL.

So the tagline is Jab Dekho Tab Naya.
I guess they are going to dub in Sooryavansham in different languages, show the movie in reverse & upside down etc to show it new ways..

The tagline for the newly launched channel is ‘Jab Dekho Tab Naya’. “The channel currently airs movies which our viewers have grown up watching. From the older movies to the most recent ones. But this is not all,” informs MSM India CEO NP Singh.

Max 2 will be a clear differentiator from its competition. Says Singh, “The objective of the movie channel is to get good cinema made in India to our viewers.”

He elaborates, “While a lot of the movie genre channels air Hindi dubbed Telugu action movies, other regional language movies like, Marathi, Gujarati among others, do not reach mainstream media. And they are beautiful movies. Our aim is to bring those to Max 2.”
So still planning to broadcast dubbed movies. It could be Hindi version of UTV World Movies 🙂

Sony Max 2 added in Airtel DTH at LCN 173.
So far all classic Hindi movies broadcast (I mean no dubbed movie so far 😀)
