Hello Everyone.
I am working with BSNL as a Broadband technician for the last 2 years and ive came aross all kind of modem+routers but the most peculiar i find belong to D-Link.
Whenever i try to pair Dlink DSL modem+router (4 port) with any other service provider like Airtel or our local ISP Ortel i find that most of the time the Dlink fails to work.
Recently one of my clients wanted wireless capabilities for his Ortel Cable Internet . and brought a Dlink 2750u Dual Antenna Modem +Router (4 port with DSL, its a new model not the older one). Upon configuring the device i found that only the LAN sharing was working and the wireless was not working.
So, i brought another Dlink 2750u from the office (a 3 year older model, single antenna). After following all the steps exactly as before this time the wireless was working but not the Lan.
I called up Dlinks customer support and they told 2750u is only for BSNL. i have worked with all kind of modems from a whole different range of companies ranging from TP-Link to Digisol to our own BSNL modem. there is no problems configuring them as a dedicated router. why does the problem exists with Dlinks modem?
Or is there anything specific i have to do with Dlinks modem? have anyone else faced any kind of similar problem?
Would be grateful if anyone can help me. i really need to answer my clients haha
Just for a quick reference here is how i configured them:
Lan cable from cable modem to dlink modem- bringing dlinks ip range in accordance to the cable modems ip. DHCP, NAT, tried both enabling and disabling them. no effect.
Do i need to do anything with the "Layer 2 Interface" or "WAN service" ?

This particular model is only for ADSL connections. I am not sure other types will work well on this.

Thank you Uberjon, you addressed the issue perfectly. A firmware update is needed in order to unlock full router capabilities.
so much for capital monopoly.
Thank you everyone for your help

has anyone checked if Open-WRT or DD-WRT is available for this modem ?

Well to All BSNL service lovers, haters and those hanging in between i say, Thank You. i personally believe because people in general think BSNL's service is bad, it is not only my duty to provide a out matched service quality to my clients area but also become a one stop solution for them regarding their networking needs.
The main problem BSNL is facing is quality workforce which is a result of very poor salary and growth prospects. an SDO gets 80,000 salary whereas a person who manages an area of 2000 connetions on a on-field-day-to-day basis gets 5000. An what does an SDO does? can he differentiate between DSL and ADSl?
Personally i manage around 900 connections. not only i provide Broadband service but also other IT services including enterprise networking. Now, unlike other service technicians i dont do it for free or for a few coins. my charges are reasonable and i dont believe in slouch service. so even though broadband subscribers in my area know i belong to BSNL but still they always see me as an independent service provider known for consistency and quality of service.
It is my honest belief that if BSNL is not able to pay atleast 15000 to the broadband technicians, they should give them the freedom of an platform through which they can earn side money.
Regards

Please come to Bijnaur, Lucknow we need someone like you.People in exchanges and that noob SDO don't even know english. What courses and degrees does it need to become a SDO? Nice to see someone from BSNL speaking english 😛 .

yes me me me me me me.
the chipset is broadcom bcm96328 chipset. Which is a bad chipset.
i have ported openwrt via serial. But i am yet to make adsl work.
i snatched the source from Netgear.
i am working on porting the IP (intellectual property) sh*t code which netgear released.
I been able to integrate that with the kernel, but i have not done much testing,
since my friend wanted his modem back. :-(
i cant say about any ETA when i will make it to work flawlessly using netgear's code drop.
the code is pathetic and porting the 2.6.28 kernel code to 3.10.x is a big problem.
i will update soon, about the progress.
thanks!

p.s. personally i use TP-Link td-w8970 with openwrt and it works like a charm.... xD!

I stumbld upon this, just for finding ddwrtopenwrt support for 2750u. Watching this thread hope against hope 🙂
