Namaste Everyone,
I have a few basic questions so please bere with me if my questions are a bit silly 🙂
I would like to watch some TV on my desktop system, naturally i would need a TV tuner card for that.I have very little knowledge about TV tuner cards so i was hoping some people here could help me out.
I am planing to buy a tuner card which has got HDMI as well as RCA connectors(if avalable).
Firstly let me explain my home setup.
We already have 2 settop boxes (Tata Sky+) connected to two TVs and my system is miles apart from both of them(so taking RCA connectors from them is out of question.)
Asuming that i already have a TV tuner card:
If i just connect the RF cable(coming from the dish) to the TV tuner card, would the card be able to decrypt the signal by itself and i can view the channels through the given software or windows media center(win 7).
OR
Do i have to get a new set-top box and connect the RF cable to it and connect the RCA/HDMI(in the set top box) cable to the TV tuner RCA/HDMI connectors?
Please Help

1. It is not possible to decrypt digital signal directly from dish antenna to TV tuner without settop box. 2. (a) You can buy new settop HD box and connect to the HDMI port of your moniter (If your moniter support HDMI Port) . You have to keep seperate speaker, if in bulit speaker not available in the moniter. ( B) If you buy SD settop box then you can connect through YPbPr to VGA converter. For this case also you required separate connection for speaker. or 3. You can connect existing HD settop box to the moniter using wicast (Asus product, around Rs. 8k) by coupling. But you can watch only one chennel at the same time (At your TV and Computer Moniter). http://www.amazon.com/WiCast-EW2000-Wireless-Transmitter-Receiver/sim/B0042JST4E/2

Hi thanks for the quick reply 🙂 i forgot to mention the tv tuner card will be internal and will go into a PCIe slot.Unfortunately i cannot connect my set top box to my monitor directly..my monitor has only one output(HDMI in) which is used by my pc.Can't i connect the hdmi from the set top box to the tuner card ?this may even solve the audio issue(external spakers) as the card will use the audio drivers present in the mother board...

Check your tuner, u having SD-in slot (Yellow colored- for composite cable). If it is available, u can connect your SD settop box.
and
Check audio slots (red and white coloured ) on the TV tuner. if it is available then don't required additional connection for the speaker.
or
if it is not available then u required separate connection for ur speaker and also u can record the only video (Not audio)

I have decided on what TV tuner card i want,it is the averTV capture from avermedia.

With this card is it possible to connect the hdmi cable from set top box to the tv tuner card (instead of using RCA cable)?
The card should work. I am using a Hauppauge Colossus card to record via HDMI. Please do note that whenever Tata Sky decides to enable HDCP your TV tuner will not work with the STB.
