I noticed this strange thing while downloading torrents using utorrent. When i try downloading a bollywood movie from desitorrents i get a constant download speed of 16-18 kBps but when I download a hollywood movie from link-removed or any other torrent site i get very low download speed , around 10 kBps on an average and it fluctuates a lot maybe in the range of 8 KBps to 16KBps and sometimes it even stops in between. I'm on 128 kBps unlimited plan with double download speed at night. Could this be because of limited international BW as a result of the earthquake near taiwan. I never experienced this problem before. I do have port forwarding problem with utorrent but this never used to limit the download speeds before. Any comments?

yaar desitorrent is a pvt tracker .pvt tracker is itself means good speed and also due to ratio restriction people will seed more which is completely different in case from link-removed and any public torrent. i also experienced the same even before quake.

so does that mean even you are getting really poor speeds when downloading Hollywood movies from public trackers...what speeds are you getting these days...if its only me who's getting such poor speeds then i guess i need to take care of the port forwarding thing...but i never tried to fix that before as i was getting decent speed before the quake

ya bc gives descent speeds even w/o port forwarding. yaar when u're choosing a torrent jus hv a look at the present seeders and leechers, a torrent with about 30-40 peers(seed+leech) wud most probably give u the max of wot our bandwitdh has to offer. In Private trackers the case is diff, seeders r always good, so u don need to worry so much but in case of public trackers seeders matter.ohh btw the taiwan crap does hav speeds crawling right now (1:05am) i'm getting a constant dwld rate of a mere 17 kBps 🙁, speed ki g**nd maar rakhi hai airtel waale ne

Well I have my downloads fast even from link-removed!Like what mystery bhai said I guess the Seeders matter a lot coz link-removed is a public tracker and speed may vary depending on the number of seeders... like I download only torrents having more than atleast 20 seeders and I get speeds of at least 54KB/s on my 512kpbs line....

i know its important to have a good number of seeders to get high download speeds...the torrents i'm downloading(from pirate bay) have around 50+ seeders even then I'm getting speeds in the range of 8-13 kBps and 10kBps on an average during night time when the connection speed is 256 kBps . I live in south delhi and am a heavy downloader so I was just wondering if these airtel guys put some kind of a filter to limit p2p traffic of those who download more than what the airtel guys can manage. Is there any one else in delhi who's getting speeds this low when downloading a torrent(hollywood movie, because the original seeders will be outside india and i'm guessing that this would make the downloading slow since the quake has put a limit on the international BW) from a public tracker. If no, I guess its the port forwarding thing that needs to be taken care of which is a pain in the ass.

You are getting 17kB constantly while downloading a torrent or just during regular surfing. Is it a public tracker that you are using???

at that time it was constant at 17 w/o any surfing in backgrnd. even on http dwlds i was gettin not more than 19 or 20 (at night i.e). and it was a private tracker.....link-removed with approx 40-50 seeds and abt some 400-500 leeechers .....so it was a pretty healthy torrent [🙂]ohh btw i get the same speeds frm eng and desi torrents (both pvt trackers)

Well im in Gurgaon and im getting the same speeds as you even in night and i have a 256k connection🙁

and u get higher speeds with torrent whose seeders r located abroad when compared to desi torrent ???

No...its the opposite..when I download hollywood movies from a public tracker i get very slow speed even when there are enough seeds(40+)...but the speed is pretty decent when downloading from desitorrents and i guess its not just because of it being a private tracker, it could also be because there are many seeders who are located within india which does not require any international BW..and I also feel that these cheap airtel dickheads are blocking p2p traffic of those who download too much..hey mystery how much do you download per month on an average...and how about you amber??...I cross 20 GB every month or maybe even more...anyone else in delhi having the same problem

hmmmm actually i meant that only, god knows why i wrote the opposite 😛waise i dwld bout 18-21 GB and upload bout 23-25 GB pm.but now i'm starting to get bored of dwldin stuff ......its been like 6-7 months of continuous HEAVY dwlds and my comp's been runnin like 16-20 hrs a day......sometimes more even(with the exception of exam times when my comp hardly runs for an hr or so 😀)

Dunno how much i DL......cos u see this is my 2nd month with unlimited DL connection.......Still my average shud be between 13-16gb PM

Private trackers give better speeds than public ones.I don't think the place matter like if it is a torrent from india or not. Seeders matter tha most.

seeders sitting on your LAN would give you faster speeds. pings matter. distance matter. as simple as that.

The moderator is right...even when the torrents on public trackers have good number of seeders, the download speed is slow...What really matters is that how many seeders are at the closest distance
