Check D-Link DSL-2750U Deals on: Flipkart | Amazon | Snapdeal | Infibeam

I'd actually already posted on how to use the D-Link 2750u as a full fledged Ethernet WAN router, but it was a few pages deep in a Tikona thread and some users were getting the actual method mixed up with workarounds posted earlier in that thread.

The 2750u is actually capable of both adsl and Ethernet WAN routing. However the Indian firmware only enables the adsl WAN. So one needs to use the Middle East (ME) or Russian (NRU) firmware to enable the Ethernet WAN function (with the ME/Russian firmware one can use adsl, ethernet or 3g WAN). Please check the label under your router to identify the specific hardware version and apply the firmware that corresponds to it. Warning: You may brick your router if you apply the wrong firmware. Presently ME firmware is available for C1 and U1 versions. NRU firmware is available for C1. The NRU firmware has the mac cloning feature so you need not ask your provider to reset the mac lock (if mac lock is present). Here are the links

ME C1 v1.3

ME C1 latest

In the latest firmware, I'm having a problem getting my 3g dongle to work, which is why I've posted both versions. Once the firmware has been changed to the ME type, one can easily switch between versions (of the same hw type) using the software update page and one can choose which version works best for them.

ME U1

6.52 MB file on MEGA (Use 7zip/Winrar etc to extract firmware)

NRU C1

Applying the firmware

The firmware may not be accepted in the normal firmware update mode. Then you'll need to update it in the dlink crash recovery mode using a LAN cable (not wirelessly). Assign a static address on the PC for the ethernet interface in the 192.168.1.x series for eg 192.168.1.5

Switch router off, press the reset button ie insert ballpoint pen in reset hole under the router, keep holding the reset button and turn on the router. Keep holding the reset button for about 12 seconds after you power on the router. Now you'll see that the power led has turned red signifying that the router is in crash recovery mode. When you enter the address 192.168.1.1 on your PC browser, you find the upgrade firmware page. Just browse to the downloaded firmware file and flash!

After the new firmware has been flashed, your internet connection will not start working automatically, you will also need to set up the router correctly. Please do not apply any workarounds mentioned in other threads such as interface grouping, disabling DHCP etc

Instructions for setting up the C1 hw version router with ME firmware

Step 1:
Log into your router and under Advanced setup->Layer2 interface->ETH interface create an Ethernet interface with connection mode as default. Then go to Advanced setup->WAN Service and add service for eth0/LAN4.

Step2: If you have an internet connection with pppoe dialing such as pacenet, Honesty etc, in the next page, choose pppoe and put in username, password and service name in the next page. Also choose to enable NAT. In the next page move eth0 from available to selected gateway interface (if it's not already in selected) and remove ppp0 (if present) from selected, in the next page do the same for DNS and finally apply/save. Do thisonly if you have both eth0 and ppp0 appearing in the setup, else let ppp0 remain in selected.

Step2 (alt): If you have a connection such as Tikona, Reliance metro, cable internet (without pppoe dialer) etc, in the next page choose ip over ethernet, in the next page let the setting remain at Obtain an IP address automatically, in the next page check option to enable NAT, in the next page move eth0 from available to selected gateway interface (if it's not already in selected) and remove ppp0 (if present) from selected, in the next page do the same for DNS and finally apply/save. Do this only if you have both eth0 and ppp0 appearing in the setup, else let ppp0 remain in selected.

Step3: Then in advanced setup - 3g connection select primary uplink as ethernet.

Now connect your internet cable to the LAN port 4 of the router and you should be able to connect through any device connected through wifi or any of the other LAN ports. If you have a connection with a browser login such as Reliance metro or Tikona, the login page will show up only on the first device that you connect in each session. After you have logged in on any device, all other devices will have internet connectivity without going through the login page.

Instructions for setting up the U1 hw version router

In Internet setup, set WAN access type to Ethernet and in protocol, choose dynamic ip for connection such as Tikona, Reliance metro, cable broadband (without pppoe dialer) etc and choose pppoe if you have a pppoe dialer based connection such as pacenet, honesty net solutions etc. When setting up the internet connection, vlan id must not be given any value other than 0.

Instructions for setting up the C1 hw version router with NRU firmware (Port 1 is WAN port)

After you flash the interface will appear in Russian. Click on the rightmost dropdown at the top of the page and choose English to change the interface language.

Click on Advanced Settings at the bottom
Click on Interface Grouping in the Advanced section. Right click on the LAN icon on the right and click on setup speed and stream. There's some quirk in the interface and it's a little tricky getting this click right. Set duplex and speed to auto and save. Again hover mouse over LAN graphic and click on Make WAN. With the default option of 'Single service...' click save. Go back to the advanced settings screen. In the Net section click on WAN and add a connection. Choose connection type accordingly and choose LAN as the interface. Change MAC if required (if provider uses mac lock), (mac cloning doesn't seem to work) put in other details as needed (make sure NAT stays enabled) and click save. Internet cable goes into port 1 and not port 4 as in the case of the ME firmware
If your provider uses a mac id lock, plug in the internet cable in port 4 (port 1 for Russian fw) after completing the setup and ask him to register the new mac in his database.
Any users seeking help on this thread, please provide all relevant details (provider, type of connection) and screenshots (info and setup). Also please make absolutely sure that it's not a mac lock issue, as many users are needlessly seeking help on the forum without having got a proper mac reset from their provider.

Hey Mate the C1 latest link points to the same U1 firmware listed below it, Please fix the link.

Manoj,
Thank you for putting this as a separate topic. I will try this firmware upgrade tonight and post my results. Do you mind posting screen shots for each step (if it is not too much of an ask) ? I have a connection like Tikona called "Airwir". So, I need to follow Step2(Alt) & skip Step2. Is that right?
Regards
Rag

Right, step 2 alt. I think you'll be able to manage without screenshots! Just post in this thread if you run into problems. Also, make sure there's no MAC id lock at your service provider end, else you'll need to ask them to refresh their mac id database.

Hi Manoj,
I did upgrade the firmware and everything gone good. But internet didnt work. So I tried to add WAN Service again but its no more showing "eth0" at all. Before it was showing but now its replaced with "ppp0". I installed framework again, factory reset but "eth0" no more coming.
I did exactly as you wrote.
Any idea ?
Edit:
Wow its working now, thank you.

Dear Mathew,
Thanks for a nice step by step guidance.
For me everything has gone smoothly upto C1 Step1.
Then Advanced Setup> WAN service>Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup> Add>WAN Service Interface Configuration>eth0/LAN4(default)> WAN Service type> PPPoE(in my case)> Enter Service description( pppoe_eth0 default)>Enter PPP username, password & service name, enable NAT> Routing default gateway( only ppp0 is visible in available select default gateway interface, eth0 is not visible) same thing in next step I,e for DNS server configuration only ppp0 is only visible. I have applied the same and saved in next step. Step 3 done. Connected the incoming RJ45 connector to LAN4.
It’s not connecting to internet! Done reboot, reloading of firmware two times….no help.
Can you guide further please.
Sincerely,
Biswaranjan.

You ought to provide more details about your connection (provider, how you used to connect etc).
If there's only one connection option, it may be called ppp0, move that from available to selected and same for DNS. I had multiple options because I had configured it for adsl, ethernet and 3g all together.
Also maybe your provider has a MAC id lock on your PC. Are you able to connect any PC with PPPoE or just one?

I am having a pppoe connection from shree omkar infocom, mumbai.
I have only one available option ppp0 as i am not using any other connection such as adsl or 3g.
I have taken care of MAC lock.
I am able to connect to internet ( old method as i was doing earlier) by connecting the incoming rj45 to LAN1 of router, PC connected through LAN2 or through wi-fi and then dialing pppoe dialer from PC with required usename & password.
Any clue? whts the problem?

How have you taken care of mac lock? If the mac of router is registered with the provider, you won't be able to connect with pppoe from the PC. Are you able to connect using a PC other than your primary one using pppoe on that PC (with incoming in port 1)?
Edit: Also, has he provided you with any static private ip address? Please provide screenshots of following screens:
1) Adv setup - WAN service
2) Adv setup - Routing
3) Adv setup - DNS
4) Device Info - WAN

Q: How have you taken care of mac lock?
Ans: Incoming RJ-45 is connected to the router(LAN1) only . Never connected incoming cable to PC directly.
As a matter of extra caution, requested for MAC reset from the service provider after changing the firmware.( Incoming cable connected to LAN1 and PC connected to router wirelessly to wl0)
Q: If the mac of router is registered with the provider, you won't be able to connect with pppoe from the PC.
Ans: Able to browse internet in above connection.
Q: Are you able to connect using a PC other than your primary one using pppoe on that PC (with incoming in port 1)?
Ans: That’s the main disadvantage with above arrangement. Only one device gets connected to router for pppoe dialup.
That’s why I want to convert LAN4 as wan port, so that multiple devices can connect.
Q: Also, has he provided you with any static private ip address?
Ans: No. IP is automatically assigned from a DHCP server of service provider.
Q: Please provide screenshots of following screens:
Ans: The screen shots as required are attached. These screen shots were taken with incoming cable connected to LAN4 and PC connected to router wirelessly to wl0.
1. Adv setup - WAN service

2. Adv setup – Routing

3. Adv setup – DNS

4. Device Info – WAN

Edit: Screen shots are getting removed in the post !

I'm afraid your understanding is wrong as to which mac is passed on when the internet cable is put into Lan port 1. It simply acts as a switch then (regardless of firmware used) and the mac of the connecting device is passed on to the provider. You need to put the wire into port 4 and then ask for a mac reset.
If there is a mac lock and if the registered mac at your provider end is correctly reset to the router's mac, when you put the internet cable into port 1 and try pppoe with your PC it won't connect, it will only connect from within the router with wire in port 4.
Edit: From your responses, the matter I want to get clarified is not coming through. When I asked
Are you able to connect using a PC other than your primary one using pppoe on that PC (with incoming in port 1)? It doesn't mean simultaneously, but is a device other than your primary one able to connect at all through pppoe? If yes then your provider does not use a mac lock and it is some other issue to be further investigated with screenshots.
For screenshots, use some other image uploading site and just link here.

Hi Manoj,
First of all a huge "THANK YOU" for being a big help to those who are facing this trouble to use RJ45 ethernet input for D-Link 2750u. Same for me. I have U1 version of the hardware and upgraded to the ME version of the firmware as you have suggested. My ISP provides me with a static IP and I have to login using a web based console. I have followed the steps as you described for UI h/w version set up. But was unable to set up the internet. Can you please suggest what other set ups I need to follow to resolve this? Please bear with me if I sound too stupid since I am really naive in these networking aspects.
Thanks,
Subhamoy.

Is it not working for you with ethernet chosen in internet setup and protocol 'static ip'?
Please provide other details such as address given, you can omit the last section for eg if it's 137.85.44.10 you could say 137.85.44.xx. Web based console, meaning web browser pointing to an address? Does your provider employ mac id locking?

Hi Manoj,
I have uploaded the relevant screenshots in the path https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1slIOr41_cQcjJ0ZUF4QjFfSFE/edit?usp=sharing .
To clarify your queries:
1. The internet is not working even if i choose ethernet in internet set up and choose static ip. In the screenshot I have provided the IP details that I have input. These are same as provided by my ISP.
2.Yes, by saying web based login console I meant to say web browser pointing towards a URL (screenshot provided)
3. I have contacted my ISP and they confirmed that if I login from one system and connected to the shared internet through other devices, I do not need to log in again. So, I think, they does not employ MAC ID locking.
Please have a look at the screenshots if you get any chance and please let me know what I am doing wrong here.Forgive me if I am responding late....coz my laptop is also not bearing with me...random power shut down problem.... 🙁

Thanks,
Subhamoy.
