How to activate 3G in data card?

I have an idea sim and a data card and wanna use 3G. Now, do I need to activate 3G before inserting the sim into data card or can I activate 3G after inserting the sim into data card just like mobile phones. I don't have any 3G enabled mobile phone. Plese help.
 
insert the sim , do any recharge for 3G pack and u are good to go
provided u are having 3G coverage in ur area

u mean i don't even have to activate 3G first like sending sms ACT3G to 12345?
 
note necessary , just make sure u are getting 3G signals
u can make it out , by seeing the signals in the 3G modem , WCDMA , HSA etc

Hey! Bro, I'm getting confused. :confused_2: The thing is I use java phone (non 3G) so you see I can't activate 3G on my sim, now I wanna use the same sim on my data card, so are you sure that I don't have to send any sms or call customer care to activate 3G? Thanks in advance.
