I have to admit, I have no idea. This has been my experience…ICICI Bank recently mailed me that they were no longer going to send paper statement by postal mail.I have two options. I can either make do with emailed statements. Or I can apply for a passbook. About the passbook, the email clearly said:You can also ask for a pass book at your nearest branch.Today, I decided to give it a go. I went to my ‘nearest branch’ (Sector 31 Market Gurgaon) to get a passbook for my savings bank account. I was told that there were some technical problems and only this branch right now was not able to provide passbooks to customers. I was told to visit any other branch where I could get a passbook on the spot.I decided to take it one step further. I went to another branch of ICICI Bank (Civil Lines Gurgaon). There I was told that I can only get a passbook from the branch where I have my account.I decided to do exactly that. I went to the branch where my account was located (Sector 14 Gurgaon). Was told… I can leave the application and come back after a week or so to collect my passbook. I was not amused by this. I asked for more details. Was told that only the home branch has the powers to update my passbook so I would have to deal with them. Not exactly what ICICI Bank indicated in their initial mail.I did the next best thing. I applied to transfer my account from that branch to the one nearest to my home. This process would take three days. The bank representative at the local branch had told me that it would take them at least 2 weeks to start distributing passbooks again. So well… The waiting begins.

Remains to be seen if this would or would not work.
My primary goal was to GET the passbook. They were not going to get away with emailed statements with me.

SBI nowadays affix your photograph and stamp it on passbook

this practice has been there for around 10 years , which am sure about it and SBI passbook is readily accepted as address proof

ICICI Bank Passbook on the other hand lacks any stamp or signature. I have a feeling that all the struggle to get it is wasted because it still might not be accepted as an address proof.
the front page doesnt have any photograph i think nor i see any stamp , this would be difficult for you to use it as address proof
so much trouble for little !

i see no point. i have not needed to visit an icici branch for several years now (except for these recent happenings).
plus online payment services have expanded so much that icici bank no longer has the advantage that it once had 🙂

It would be valid for the next month or so. I need a permanent solution.
Get a passport for all proofs..nationally accepted. 😀. I have seen places where passport was accepted and so called AADHAR card was rejected. Funny system.

Getting a passport is well... harder than getting an Aadhaar Card 😀
i dont think so..if u have all docs right, you can get it in 20 25 days time. they have improved since taken over by TATA services.

Sushubh i have a news for you. I went to ICICI bank nearest branch and SBI Branch. Both the banks confirmed that e-statement with bank seal and countersigned is as good as passbook when provided as address proof and valid as long as you want.

I have applied for a my Mom & Dad's passport using their SBI and ICICI bank statements respectively. Also I remember applying for UK & Schengen visa using my HDFC Bank online statement and bank's stamp over prints.
So it works. You don't need physical passbook at all.

From personal experience when you get your online statements stamped from the bank just ensure that its a blue ink not the black one which cannot be differentiated from a photocopy & will not be accepted. 🙂 My HDFC branch uses black we have had to insist on blue ink pad be used 😀
