I probably found a little solution to this. I am keeping watch on it.
Currently it seems to work.

1) Login to your modem by going to http://192.168.1.1
2) Go to Status -> ADSL and note down current
up and down SNR margins and line attenuation
3) Now go to Advanced -> ADSL and change
modulation type to G.Dmt OR Multi (ADSL) and click Apply
4) Then goto Tools -> Misc -> Save and Reboot.
5) Check SNR margin and line attenuation as in step 2)

In my case download SNR margin jumped from 17 to 25,
upload SNR margin jumped from 12 to 21 and attenuation
dropped from 40 to mere 10!!

And line seems to be stable. If Multi (ADSL) does not
work then try G.dmt.

Side effect is speed reduces but atleast daytime when u
r working and not downloading much u prefer stable line
insted of speed.
Note: after more tests i found speed does not reduce

At night I noticed my line to be relatively stable (disconnects
only 3-4 times) even at ADSL2+ modulation.
So I switch to ADSL2+ at night.

Hope it helps others.

P.S. This is for Utstar modem but mostly D-Link has same
options.

i tried your suggestions just now mate...but the snr for me stays the same...in fact, now it disconnects around every 10 mins compared to every 30 mins to an hr on adsl2+ setting. so i switched back to adsl2+ 🙁

well it seems to have worked for me.. it disconnects but today it disconnected just 2 or 3 times whereasearlier it wud disconnect every 2mins. but yes once also lasted abt 9hrs on adsl2+...god knows if its exchange orthis setting change.. only time will tell. lets see for 1 more day

ya man...hopefully this problem of disconnections will be fixed for all of us. actually i set it back to multi(adsl) around 7pm to give it another shot..and after a few disconnects, it has been stable since around 7:30pm!! hope it stays that way...thanks amish!!

btw speed is not affected .. it was my wrong impression abt some slow site.site was slow and i thought it was because i changed modulation.i am getting 205k on other sites.PS: whats ur SNR marging after it stabilized?

now i also find that download SNR also hangs at about 25-27, good increase from 14-15.

other than sid1 has anyone complained to mtnl about the disconnects was planing to call them up but was worried they may bring down the speeds back to 256kbps i am on nu plan

i was frustrated with disconnections so i had given call. they said engineer will call. but nothing happened.but anyway my line is much stable now.

right now my SNR is 12 but i'm getting a download speed hovering around 170-200 kBps... 🤔that too in Ares, i think HTTP will give even more...

Even I have the UTSTAR 300R2U, but I see no option such as "Multi" -

[/b]

try disabling adsl2+

i have ut-304r2... ur screenshot is very different...ut-304r2 interface is much like d-links

well SNR margin is goin to reduce as the line speed increases. What your modem shows is not the actual SNR but the SNR margin ie the difference between the actual SNR on the line and the SNR required to attain the speed allocated. As the speed increases from 256 to 2mbps the SNR required to sustain the speed increases but the actual line SNR remains the same, hence the drop in SNR margin.Currently MTNL is using the ITU g.992.1 standard also known as G.DMT so its advisable to disable all other modulations from the ADSL setting in the modem and select only g.dmt. Doing this should increase the SNR ratio. I have tried it and SNR has increased in my case.

well changed the adsl setting to g.dmt, the result increase in my downstream data rate from 2013 to 2048 but decrease in my upstream rate frm 260 to 256 and my snr decreased frm 20 to 15 🙁
