From being sane Citibank just become Insane.Previously while paying online with Citibank Credit Card was easy, just needed to enter the internet banking password in place of 3D secure. But now they have made OTP mandatory and OTP is not sent but we need to request from our mobile. I tried it twice and both the times (two different days) the transaction did not go through. So if we need to transact using citi cards, we need to shell out money for sms for every transaction and which anyways did not work for me.Tried contacting them thru twitter and found out that CitiBank India does not have any presence in twitter. Its like 90s

I have been using my citibank cc at all retail outlets because it didnt ask for pin during purchase and it is not chip enabled. This will be a new pain now.

I dont think this will affect the normal shopping, I faced this with online transaction. Hope they have not tampered normal transaction at merchant stores.

In the name of security banks are going Moronic. I have a citi card but haven't used it in a while. Let me see what happens.

Seems this has been put in only recently, I carried out one transaction around 23rd Dec, completed the transaction using IB password, never tried sending sms as I feel its a bit of a hassle. But I do agree I would feel a lot safer with OTP, I dont mind sending the sms but not receiving a reply back with PIN would frustrate me.

I bought something from Tradus and paid by Citibank credit card yesterday and it worked without any OTP.
It was exactly same like I have been doing since years.

When I use Citi Credit card, I get option for OTP or Internet banking password earlier. Havent tried Credit card after 1 Jan 2014.
I guess OP clicked OTP option by mistake 🙂

Citi Mastercard works as it always has been working. No OTP mandatory. You can choose password and complete the transaction. Just purchased something on Amazon.in

Do you have a valid IPIN? If yes can you please try login into citibank online... after one successfull login it will give you option for IPIN as well while transacting online.

Used to be the same way for me previously, but not now.

Now I tried using the same card at fuel outlet, got the reply as transaction declined on the machine.
Seems I need to keep the citicard away for long time

Been using ipin since ... I guess 8 years. Used to get the ipin option till last month, now OTP is the only option

ICICI too has issued a new credit card with security chip; this card insists additional security - entry of PIN for use in shops and a one time 3d security code (through sms and email) for online transactions for amounts 5000 and above. I still use the old credit card which has less hassle.

Recharged by Mobile with Citibank Credit Card (Mastercard). Process was similar as I did in 2013 🙂
No need for OTP, just needed my Citibank login Password for verification.
But my card expires next month, I guess then fun would begin when I get new card.

Must be a new RBI regulation. SBICard also switched to OTP for 3D-secure authentication
