guys, speed upgrade or not, every thing is absolute shite, thanks to the power companies. i mean what could one resort to when you set up a download at 12:10 AM, and goto sleep, and to find out that there was a 2hour long power cut in the night, unknown to you. waking up to see a switched off computer, and that sinking feeling 🙁 and in my locality there are regular power cuts twice every day, once in the afternoon, and oncein the night... each time, for about 1/1 and a half hours.and i'm sure threre would be quite few others here in the same boat as me. so i wanna ask is, what backup-jugaads do you guys employ to grapple with this situation?for how many rupees, can i get an electrically safe rig for a decent enough backup of about 2 hrs, without any beepers?has any body ever tried such stuff? let me know guys! 🙄

For about 12k, you shaould be able to buy:1. An inverter + battery that lasts for 2 hours with 150 W load2. UPS With 5 min backup + serial/usb interfaceIntervter can feed UPS + Modem. UPS can feed CPU.Connect Monitor, Printer etc directly to mains. With power management, you can bring down CPU usage (turn down CPU frequency, turn off unused hdd/cdrom etc etc).If power goes away, Inverter can keep running UPS. When that is about to discharge, UPS can shutdown PC thru USB/Serial. Some motherboard BIOS have feature to turn PC back on when power comes back.

^ but that will suck away all the energy from the inverter... and the next day when the power goes out in the afternoon, and the inverter starts screaming, then everyone at home will start screaming at me...i just want to rig-up something that can handle about 2hrs of backup just for the cabinet power supply.

Have someone remove beeper from inverter 😉I don't hink there is anything chepaer the niverter that can do this. Only cheaper option is to create your on MOSFET circuit + good battery that will cost around 6k.
