Speed Increased To 2 Mbps Frm 29th Dec 06

Slow as a tortoise. Speeds still not in place?

1. Log into your Dataone usage page. Leftmost column shows " upto 2mbps" (mine is 500 home plan)
Previously it was 256kbps

2. Click on "Access service" at the top toolbar. Scroll down - only Home 500 says
"Plan - HOME 500 : Speed - 256 Kbps.Modified on 29/12/2006 and provided upto 2 Mbps "
Most others except Unlimited 900 plan are upgraded to 2mb.

There is even a "4mb test " window.

It would be helpful if members also mention their location.
I am at Mangalore. And getting speeds between 80 to 100 kBps with downloaders.
Even default downloader in Firefox gives good speed.

I think Unlimited Users had enough fun till now....so time for us to do that.Even if we have limited account, it doesn't matter. Bcos having 2 mbps speedis to have 8 times faster speed than 256 kbps. And I think free time which is02:00 - 08:00 is quite enough for downloading.....With the download speed of 2 mbps we can now download 600-700 MB in 1 hour.And thats something awesome to have happened for us.......I m even confident that in no time all UL 900 users would be shifting to HOME-500 or HOME-1000.

I am in Chennai. And Kotturpuram in Chennai. Dammit, maybe my telephone exchange is not technically feasible for 2mbps speed ? 🙁

I am surprised. Kotturpuram is a well developed area. that too in a metropolitan city like Chennai.
However BSNL is playing it safe with the clause"wherever technically feasible" if ther are complaints.
Perhaps you should take it up with the concerned persons at BSNL. Afterall, their Chennai website
gives the revised download speeds info at .

By the way download speeds while browsing are just around 5 to 12 kBps.

I am from kerala in Tirur exchange.I changed my UL900 plan to HOME 500 .But my downloading speed reduced to 8KBps -10KBps from 28KBPS -32 KBps which i got from my Unlimited plan. anyone from kerala please post speed after upgradation.

bsnl bangalore UL 900 user here. Speed reduced from 30KB/s 2 days back to 8KB/s. WTF is wrong with bsnl? I might have to submit a written complaint.

HI I'm From Pune and using Home 900UL Plan . My speed has also decreased from 32 KBps to 8 KBps ... BSNL is increasing or Decreasing speeds ... WTF is going on ... ???

No problem with my 900ul connection here..still get 30/kb sec consistantly.

I'm from Pune with the Home 1800(512Kbps) plan. The BSNL page states I have "upto 2Mbps" however, my speeds for the past 3 days have been rubbish at what looks like 64Kbps or less. Before this I did get 512Kbps always.I tried calling them up, but the local number is engaged and the broadband call center number says "your call is important to us, please stay on line, you will be attended shortly" - that went on ten times in a sick voice intermixed with advertisements for OneIndia...

am got nearly 220KB/s for 3 days.then am getting 130-150 KB/s speed.i live in outskirts of hyderabad

from bangalore.. man.. the speeds are not like they used to be!!! this deal is rotten..first.. we are subjected to this..max download 2-8 (2mbps)6*700(not max 2mbps speeds)=4.2gb(approx)max download 24hrs (256 ul)24*100(max 256speeds!!) = 2.4gb!! WTF!!!!to make it worse.. they reduce our speeds!! this is friggin crap! why is it that i am paying 900?? can anybody tell me?

Telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran announced that mtnl and bsnl's broadband speed will be increased from 256 kbps to 2 mbps at the same price from 1 january 2007. But there is a great comedy in his annoucement as well as disappointment for internet users.Dayanidhi Maran made the people fool. MTNL and BSNL are providing 2 mbps speed only for volume based plans. It is not for unlimited and hourly plans. When a person is paying according to his download limit (i.e. according to per mb), How can he enjoy 2 mbps speed at the same price. He is paying, how much he is using. No one will be benefitted by this promotion of speed.When telecom minister himself befooling the people, what will be the future of that country in the field of IT? He can make people befool who dont know much about broadband, but an internet user can easily understand his fraud. Mr. Dayanidhi Maran please stop doing such kind of silly announcements before the whole media.Shame on you Mr. Maran.

The technical capability of delivering high speed ADSL was already there in the telephone exchanges. The speeds were throttled to 256/512 Kbps. Most likely they simply set the upper limit to 2Mbps. The tariff page states that the speed could be anywhere between 256Kbps to 2 Mbps. They are not guaranteeing high speed. If you are lucky to be close to the exchange and your line condition is good then you can expect to get close to 2Mbps.
