I am from chennai, my friend spoke to the customer care of Tata Sky, she said the six month offer is only for CAS areas & not cities like chennai, hyderabad & bangalore. She was tongue-tied when my friend quipped that CHENNAI is also under CAS. Anyway , she still maintained the stand of the offer being only for these3 cities[/b]

Tata Sky had an offer of Rs.500 installation (so cost Rs.3500)/- , plus the dealer gave a tip that Tata Sky allows you upto 14 days to call up and activate the a/c & all channels come till then ..so you can get 2 weeks viewing free(Rs.150/-) , logically speaking. So my friend yesterday had it installed & is yet to call up & get it activated....so Rs 650/- less (not as good as Rs.1800/- in the other 3 cities. but still an agreeable deal.

Also, within the last 5 days , I see about 10-15 dishes coming up in the neighbouring buildings (include 2 in my own building). In chennai , people deferred going CAS/DTH way from 2003 till 2006 coz they got Sahara, Sab , Pogo, Utsav, Zee music, B4U Music still for 100 bucks....now with all except Utsav being gone, they are being forced to go for it

Yeah but other than that freezing problem I tihnk thomson is better![/b]
My digicomp got replaced with humex, it resolved my freezing problem. But I'm not very convinced that the quality of the video from the humex box is great. I see that the picture is getting pixelized more in this box compared to thomson. but the picuture seem to be sharper compared to thomson. May be it is my perception. The engineer said Humex is good compared to thomson. (Surprisingly the singal quality is showing 100% and strength is 80% in this box. I used to see 80% singal quality in my earlier thomson box.

I sometimes see 100% signal quality with my Thomson. I only have one problem now with Thomson. When browsing the EPG.. when moving through different times it runs very slowly. Otherwise very good box by Thomson.

With the World cup coming , the two rivals Dish & Tata have come up with some good offers. I expect a few more dishes to get added in surrounding areas. Dish offering 6 months subscription free & Tata three months.

@Crazysah : The lag in the picture while changing channels is a problem you will find in every other provider too. This problem is existenet in the technology itself.Word is that, Mcst is launching their own DTH services in the states which they claimed doesn't have this problem. I saw a footage on gamertv and it was pretty impressive

FYII'm in Bombay and couple of days back, we (our building society) called a TS sales guy to give us a demo of their services at our premises. Presently, TS has an offer of 3 months free viewing. The sales guy offered us 2 more months of free viewing (ie total of 5 months free) if ten members (we have 21 flats in total) in our building agree to sign up for TS.So if you are in a bldg, try to convince your society and get something off either in terms of free viewing or a discount on installation costs. If you ask the helpline, you get mixed response about this. Some say that there is absolutely no room for any haggling while others say that there is some scope for a discount and it's up to the sales guy.
