Subscribed to MTNL IPTV sometime in Nov/ Dec. Got it immediately. Video quality much better than cable. Initially not much of a choice, but the number of channels have gone up. MTNL had replaced the router with a new one having four ports.IPTV stopped working mid - January. Lodged complaints. IOL came and changed set top boxes, routers etc. MTNL guys came, saw that braodband is working fine, so no problem from their side. IOL guys have absolutely no idea on what they are doing. Lousy guys. MTNL guys may have limited knowledge, but they are very open about what they know and what they do not know. IOL guys will come and sit the whole day groping around in the dark - trying to fix the problem. In the process they screw up the modem settings, do not know what the default settings are.IPTV still to be fixed. IOL guys have stopped responding. They will not accept that they cant fix it. Waiting to see the end.

i wonder why no1 has opined abt IPTV on mouthshut?

a few more additions to my previous post:1) The Set top box 'boots' up like a Laptop. Notice that I used the words laptop and not desktop. It is a considerable amount of time since you power on the box and when a picture comes on. something like 2 whole mins.2)In Dec the IOL guys mention that only about 12 had IPTV connection in the exchange. Approx 100 in Mumbai in December.3)The number of channels earlier offered was nothing to write home about but now a whole host of channels is there.4)Here is a killer suggestion for the MTNL/IOL guys to improve the number of users. Let each user have 1 GB space on MTNL servers and enable users to pause live TV. With a cricket mad country lot of people would like the option of pausing live TV to answer a phone etc.

Being a User of Mtnl's IPTV, - let me tell you - The iptv which was installed 2 months ago in my house - and the iptv that i watch today - is COMPLETELY different - weather it be clarity wise, content wise - and Service wise. WHAT CLARITY - Simply UNBELEIVEABLE - and now they have also introduced some HD content which i am totally FLAWED by. For those of you who were not happy with the service provided - you guys need to call the hotline - which is 126000 - which i have to say is THEE most efficient service. The way things have improved is justsimply unbeleivable. we need to understand that this is the latest technology and hats off to mtnl who have actually succeeded in providing this to us. Give these guys another few months and take my word for it - u will share the same view that i have. cheers

yes i am waiting. i just hope by the time CAS comes in my area, IPTV has taken stable form. else i will be forced to STB from cable op. i also hope that IPTV STB rent is also reduced or they give direct purchase option for STB.

good to hear supersoulfighter's comments...kudos to MTNL!

Excellent. I hope soulfighter is not on a windup. IPTV if properly implemented has the biggest potential out of other alternatives. But for that bsnl and mtnl really need to adopt an aggressive approach and concentrate on value added services to complement it. Getting affordable unlimited plans or limited plans with considerable download limit would certainly help. Waiving off the rental for the landline phone if you subscribe to iptv is another way to market this product. The launch of iptv by airtel and reliance will be another important milestone coz with that i can finally see both companies entering the home user broadband segment on a big scale.

at 200 bucks/mnth rental and 100 bucks/mnth for the stb - its just too killer - those who are waiting for reliance and bharti will keep waiting - just like i did-- waited for it for so dam long but these guys - sorry to say - just keep postponing the actual commercial rollout. abt ur download limits - iptv is obviously unlimited whereas if you are on the nite unlimited plan like me - its good enough as u get 1 gb/mnth for the day and unlimited at nite - also the remote is so cool that its been programmed to control my tv as well as my stb - so dont need 2 remotes as i do on my cas - as for the video on demand - they havent yet added any movies and so i called the hotline and they told me that as the billing for the vod hasnt started as yet - hence they cant air the hollywood movies - they should be starting the VOD billing in the nxt 15 days or so and will then add all the hollywood movies which they have signed up with - -----------SSF

Mate , you misunderstood. The download limits were said purely in the context of broadband and i'm aware that iptv has nothing to do with the download limits. What i was saying is that if mtnl launched some exciting broadband plans then iptv would look more enticing to the new users. Mtnl and Bsnl are government organizations and hence have a headstart when it comes to laying the fibre and getting the necessary clearances. Reliance and Airtel being private would obviously need more time due to various factors.

true - everyone would prefer better braodband plans - but they have already converted everyone to a 2mbps connection - and i get d'load speeds of around 110k+ .. so one cant really ask for all the brownies at one time - and im really happy with my existing broadband plan.as far as reliance and airtel go - id rather enjoy what i get now - hold on for a year or so till they launch - watch it at a friends house - compare the 2 - and then switch over if i have to .. worth spending 300 bucks to get the latest technology in ur room - worst case scenario u will lose 1k which is the installation charge - that too at the end of atleast a yr - so all in all mtnl works for me - Cheers - Hope to see you join the IPTV fanclub soon---------SSF

wait, did supersoulfighter say that they are offering HD content?!?!? If that is true, then awesome!!! I hope that Airtel brings in widescreen and HDTV content, so that it actually becomes a practical choice to own a LCD HDTV here!!!

anybody know when they vud be offering iptv in other parts of delhi??

you guys need to call the hotline - which is 126000

that number takes me to indian gas:O
