Bsnl, mtnl (Govt.) already announced it,and Airtel being a private operator should have announced it before them, but neways it's strange for a govt co. like bsnl and mtnl to announce such a plan (i.e 2 mbps etc...).but there's no news from airtel about their response to bsnl/mtnl 2mbps offer uptill now !!!Most probably i think they are gonna do it the same day (Jan 1st) , otherwise their not-so-large customer base will start converting again to MTNL/BSNL 4 sure.I called up cc regarding airtel's 2mbps offer in response to BSNL/mtnl's offer, and the first reply was that they haven't announced it yet (i.e. officially),just after that 2nd reply was they are no plans to do it either. (Double meaning)So u hv Any info (Official/unofficial) regarding that !

Would be tough for AIRTEL to follow the 2mbs speed. if they don't they will lose cutomers in mumbai and delhi, if they do then they will have to do same for other states.I think Airtel is still waiting and hoping that MTNL servers wont be able to take the increased load.

airtel could only possibly find itself in trouble if bsnl and mtnl are offering these speeds with either decent limits (not possible) or no limits (umm. little possibility).i am not going to move to bsnl from airtel if they offer a 2 gb 2 meg line for 100 bucks. coz its not worth dealing with the government bodies.

yeah, if the whole 2Mbps thing comes with data caps, I'll stick to Airtel too. I am hoping that either Airtel or MTNL come with at least a 1Mbps or 512kbps unlimited plan, but I don't think even that will happen.

Woww.. did the govt. really announce the 2Mbps plan? Well like our seniors said I too will not switch my valuable & stable Airtel connection to the crappy BSNL connexion if there r any Data Caps. On the other hand even if they offer Night / Full Unlimited 2Mbps... I'll have to change my opinion...!! 😛Lets hope for the best.. Coz Airtel is no ordinary company... They surely will come up with enticing plans to retain their customer base.. But if they introduce this 2Mbps thingi in all states then I guess its nice.. else 4 ppl like me surfing Mbps speeds will still be a dream...! 🙂

For me 2Mbps NU @ 590 bucks a month would be AWESOME. No reason to shift to airtel AT ALL!!

Who really believes that BSNL will be offering 2Mbps unlimited ?

I have no direct proof for this, just anecdotes.

Will BSNL offer a *CAPPED* 2Mbps ? YES

So, it will be slightly better than the current setup. Tho if it was capped at those speeds you will only hit your limit faster.

Why else would Airtel not even be bothered to upgrade their existing plans. Does anyone believe that Airtel or the other private co's would not be even slightly aware of such a development.

Unlimited at 2Mbps for approx Rs.1k is still years away, or if you got the cash (more of it than sense), available right now.

blr_p, its good for Night Unlimited guys. We could be able to theoretically download 8 times what we could originally. But yes, its a bad idea for the ones who have totally capped accounts...

Appears i posted b4 seeing that night unlimited post in the other threads. That's a decent compromise i suppose. Still not enough for me to dump Airtel tho.

Lets do some calculations. Say BSNL does indeed provide night unlimited 2 Mbps from 8 PM to 8am as is suggested in the other threads. In one hour you will download around 900 MB. In 12 hours of night unlimited you will download around 10 GB. In 30 days you will download >300 GB 😱 I still find it hard to believe this is possible 🙄 Even in some developed countries where there are no explicit downlad limits mentioned, your ISP will send you a warning letter for downloading so much on a HOME "unlimited" plan.Besides this what about the technical challenges. I am not sure the line attenuation stats of majority of BSNL usrers are good enough to handle such speeds. Then there is small matter of bandwidth capacity. If BSNL does indeed provide 2 Mbps Night unlimited for 12 hrs, then Airtel will have to respond with some increase in speed for the unlimited plans. The speed increase will be more dramatic if BSNL announces speed increase for 900 Unlimite plan too (which at this point of time is as likely to happen as me becoming the Prime Minister of india 😛 ). But then that would be asking for too much from Santa Claus 😉

Right what about contention ratios, prioritisation ?If ppl take advantage of the night time unlimited, i can imagine some kind of shaping happening after a bit, it will be an unwritten limit. The extents of which we will hear about from power users soon.

What I think is .... BSNL will provide UPTO 2Mbps.... where only 256kbps will be guaranteed...and anything more will depend on the network load ..this is what i think

well for providing 512kbps......they dun have the stuff..than how come theyll offer 2mbps...right now its jus bol bachan stuff by dayanidhi maran.......and even if it hits it will b capped.....badly..............as we know pvt operaters and better than govt.....so i guess airtel knows bsnl trick wont work...hence no planned offer yet....but if something really comes up...than airtelhas to doit..so does other operaters else they will b kicked badly....but i still beleive bsnl words are in air..........damn u never offered 1mbps and u sayin 2 mbps..where even providing unlimit 256 kbps is not possible for u......

nah they can't do that....they have to provide min 80% speed! 😛

you know wat i feel is.. that the govt has enough bandwidth.. its just that the indian consumer is the milking cow so why exploit it to the max by ratioing the mbs... and i think the thinking here is wrong.. bsnl can pull this off for sure. i doubt airtel can match it..and frankly speaking.. 95% of the people wouldnt even use more then thier quota of mbs. those who download a lot already have thier plans in place.. so just hope that your speeds are increased too!!! and when they are rejoice!! give the govt some relief.. too much criticism on this board for BSNL.....(no me not an employe there.lol.. )
