Telegram Updates

looks like i still can't drag 2GB+ files on the desktop app after the update today.

Downloaded an 800 mb file.

Transfer rates were between 13 to 15 MB/sec

(Free account).

Telegram has Indian servers?

Also do you think these speeds are good (for the money you're paying for it.)

@Sushubh has a premium account. He can confirm the download speeds.

The upload speeds I am getting on the free account are TERRIBLE.

damn. they just need 2-3% of their userbase... still comes to around 21 million lol. to cover the costs. lol.

so the running cost is around 100 million dollars per month? crazy.

lol. so i am trying to upload a 3.5GB file now. it just does not get uploaded through the web interface which is usually faster than the desktop app. so i put it on the desktop app. it is uploading at around 8-10mbps. this would be fine normally but since telegram would only upload one file at a time... this means that any image i share in a regular chat is now just queued up in the same client. lool. idiocy.

This is interesting.

On Android the price is INR 460.
On iOS the price is INR 469.

Telegram for macOS downloaded from website: INR 349

So, the cheapest is using Telegram downloaded from the website, not even Android, by INR 110.

Right, just noticed that the price on macOS is 349 and on the phone it's 469.

If I purchase it on my desktop, wouldn't it entitle me for the same premium features on the phone too?

It would on all devices logged in with the same Telegram user.

I signed up for it on iOS. Will start with Telegram direct, next month onwards. Cheapest we can get is 349 at the moment.

For users who want it and can afford it, INR 349 is okay for the service they are offering. It seems it is more about data transfer, and the exclusive sticker animations, etc. are simply bonuses thrown in to try and lure a standard user who does not have a need for heavy data transfer.

I feel this model is better still, surely more than 3% of users are power users of Telegram, and if they are made to pay for the service, it is alright. For me, I just do not trust Facebook, and would instead pay to use Telegram.

Software was meant to be paid anyway. It is when users started getting free apps (that would rape their privacy in return for not billing them for the apps) that users became spoilt irrevocably. If Twitter were to charge INR 499 per month, I am sure the dispensation would have trouble sustaining the trolls that we see on the platform. Same for Facebook.

so a month has passed. my premium is over. telegram did not renew automatically as i had asked the bot to stop the subscription.

was wondering if anyone here took premium and if the bot was able to automatically renew on their card lol.
