I was on airtell and thought I would give act a chance.Connection was done in 24 hours because our building already had connections.Engineer came over to do the install. He has no idea what he is doing other than being able to lay the cable and connect it to my laptop. On airtell my upload speed was 1MB and download speed was 8MB.On act I am getting 20 MB download and 50 MB upload. The only problem the guy was unable to configure my Belkin router. Not only that but what was working with airtel dsl modem even that has stopped working.Need some help to configure my belkin. If I connect the RJ45 jack he gave me direct to my laptop and then logon using a web browset it works. If I hook it up to my belkin it stops working. He has no idea what to do Any help appreciated. My understanding is that I have to configure the Belkin as ppoe with my act userid and password. Is this right ?

yes tou are right. Config it in ppoe mode with user name and password and ur done

Yes, you are right. But, before you do that, connect the RJ45 to your laptop/desktop first. Make sure you log out from portal.acttv.in. Once you log out from there, connect the RJ45 cable to your router and configure it with pppoe with your act userid and password.
If you don't log out from portal.acttv.in first, you will not be able to connect to the net using your router.

Neither of the above solutions worked. My understanding for ppoe is that you need a userid with @ and a domain name in it. Like airtel used.Anyway I got it to work by just configuring as dynamic. This means if there is a power down I need to logon from one of my devices i.e. phone / ipad / laptop.

I have mtnl in pppoe, my landline no is my userid , there is no @ in the userid .

there is no specific requirement for username to be in any specific way for PPPoE. its just a username. the server is the one which will check if tis valid and has access granted.

Ok I will try again when I get some time. For some reason PPPoe refused to work. The Router was not being assigned an IP. This is whats happening when I tried also. The engineer said if you dont like it cancel your connection. We cant make it work with your router. Id like to use pppoe cause it means that I dont have to manually log in.
