Tata Sky and others have been doing this for long time, maybe not any more 😛

One of the several catches... You do not get access to new premium channels like Star World Premiere HD.

What about deposting 5 year recharge money in your bank instead of giving it to videocon?

Well.... 8% per year = 40% in 5 years going by simple interest & closer to 60% as per compound.... Plus being locked in with the same provider for 5+ years -- not sure if that is a great idea.
Having said that the so called price protection is there & also the hassle of tracking & paying monthly is avoided... So, if you want to avoid the later, you can consider going for it
Personally would always go for 1 year recharge... and get 1-2 months (or whatever is on offer) for free..

Just to add more to the calculation (I mean confusion), you will be actually paying out 20% in a year for actual bill payments monthly. So averaging out 8% of 100% in 1st year, 8% of 80% in 2nd year, 60% in 3rd year... so you will probably end up getting closer to 25% in banks and not 40-60%... so basically I feel its not much of a difference 😀

@mhsabir Your points are valid. I said to deposit it in bank because these 5year plans are simply not worth it! Even going by 100%,80% measure you are still saving.

I think max 1 year recharge are ok, because you save some hassle of monthly payments & get some benefits. Otherwise not a major benefit.

Its always better to go for small recharges like one year because 5 years is a very long time .. Major disadvantage of 5 years is that any provider can start becoming rubbish and if you are locked in for 5 years you wont beable to change providers plus if they dont give you proper service there is nothing you can do ...

To make it more lucrative, they can easily offer a refund option. Because the user would have to wait for 5 years to actually make use of the offer.

I highly doubt they will give anyone a refund .. Im going to shortly post what a harrowing experience I have had with You Broadband and how they vehemently told me NO for a refund inspite of the service being down from their end for no fault of mine so forget refunds in todays day and age unless one wishes to go to the consumer court ...

I am saying they can easily afford to give a refund considering you are paying the full price for the first four years. There are no discounts for that period right?

I recently discarded my airtel dth, and got refund check after 3 month instead of 2-3 weeks, the amount was 350 or something 😀
