Airtel slashes 2G data rates by 90%

I was using Airtel since many yrs, these guys keep increasing the charges/ data tariffs without intimation at their will.
Now ported to Aircel & pretty happy with it. Network might not be that strong in villages but in city most of the networks are gud.

Hmm, i have Reliance GSM and Vodafone here in Delhi. Satisfied with vodafone, but absolutely shocked and harassed by Reliance. They deducted balance from my account like 3 rs. twice in 3-4 days. And i call customer care and it gets resolved, but this has happened for 5 times. They deduct balance, i call cc , get refund. Will port to Aircel then.

Do some checks with Aircel. They have pretty disastrous network in some places, Here in Hyd its gud.
Earlier their 2g was also pathetic however they have improved the 2G data immensely in AP.
Thing is that when this Avoid gang does some changes to the tariff all others follow them, even Tata Docomo which was the pioneer in bringing low cost calling thru 1p/sec in India is following them.

Aircel is quite better in delhi with amazing tarrifs

AIrcel 2G speeds are good. I used to get 30- 35 kbytes at night sometimes!

O teri.. kal hi 2G recharge karaya tha Airtel ka. Aaj karta to 7 days ki jagah 30 days ka milta.What happened here is a good thing. This is nothing but simple competition at play. I understand that telecom operators are under tremendous pressure but the validity of many plans and schemes were ridiculous especially in 2G. There are many users who don't even completely use the data provided with a recharge and the validity is too short for them. These users have to recharge again just to remain connected. In other words there were no good plans for light users.What impact does this have on revenue per subscriber for the operators? Negative, from users like me who use limited data as companies will get less revenue from them as they will now recharge less frequently. Positive, from the point of view that number of new mobile internet users who otherwise would not recharge considering that the plan's validity was ridiculous and would simply prefer Broadband or cybercafe. Also positive, from the new subscribers, who choose one operator over another because they started/have this new plan.

When will they slash 3G rates? Considering that 2G was started more than 6-7 years ago, I am expecting nothing less than 2020 when they will make their pathetic plans a little less pathetic, but still far from desirable. What's wrong with Telecom companies in India? I get it, we are a 3rd world country and we have more problems than Mobile Internet rates, but still, we deserve something better than what these thieves are throwing us.

2G should essentially be free considering the quality of service they offer. It's not worth paying 1 paisa per MB of data.

Do the smart thing. Make it free. Entice more customers to pay for 3G.

This is all PAY AS YOU GO so the data pack prices are not changing. The news media and all advertise it as if it is something really great.
Edit: Also data pack validity is increased which is good.
