From its system requirement page:

512 MB RAM or higher recommended for Outlook Instant Search. Grammar and contextual spelling in Word is not turned on unless the machine has 1 GB memory.[/b]

1 gig of ram required to do spelling/grammar check?

lol ya its like dat...neways this is designed for win VISTA n for running vista 1GB ram wud be the minimum for a smooth performance 🙁

Normal spell check works fine in 256 MB.1 GB is required for contextual spell check. "1 GB is to much too run spell checked." thse are the kind of typos that require CPU power and RAM to catch.

umm. its weird. it should be on and should work progressively. i mean do the processing when nothing is being on the document and there is enough processing power available to do contextual spell checking... it won't hurt me if word does not spell check me as i am typing. as soon as i complete a sentence, it could do the processing then and there. 1 gb... is way too much. it should more of a processor power issue. 😛

Hopefully some other company will challange MS in this field and they might come up with an answer. For now, there is no product in market that comes close to MS Word in this feature and they can dictate terms.Edit : I am one of the users who just need this 🙁
