Dear FriendsI found your replies to the queries very helpful & easy to understand & implementI have one simple query if you can help me sort out :I am a surgeon by profession I have a clinic about 75-80 meters away from my residence and there are two high rise buildings in betweenI am using Mt841 for my broadband dataoneI tried with Linksys wireless G access point but am not able to access internet from my residence to my clinicCan I use a overhead cat 5 cable to use the lan option from the modem ?would 75-80 meters cable be able to transfer data at the same speed?I have 256kbps unlimited connection ?Or there is some another way to use wireless connection at this distance? Also how can I make my MT841 wireless network secure?Thanking you in anticipationRegardsDr Kukreja

^ as I understand it , it is difficult to get wireless
internet signals at your clinic thru MT841 from
home . it may be better to try the cable between
modem and the system at the clinic ...

another simple method is to use a parallel phone
wire ( not legal ) from your home to clinic and
use another splitter & modem to access the net .

if you can hire a network expert , the following
links might help : Link 1 and Link 2

And for MT841 wireless security , pls see : mt841.doc

Thanks a lot for response

My only query now will be would a cabelled network work with same speed on Cat 5 cable for 75-80 meters

Thanks
Dr Kukreja

Best bet , setup a local network , buy a switch , connect the modem to the switch and ur pc(at clinic) to the switch , u can also connect ur home pc to the switch if u want to access net from home . will work well till 100 mettersu might have to buy a switch , abt 100 mtrs of network cable , and two NIC cars ,(if u want to connect both from home and clinic). U also need to clip the network cable , its easy , if u are ready to try it , just needs a cliping tool , and few network jacks to give test runs

speeds can be without much loss upto 100 meters over a Cat 5 cable ...
edit : the above post by Krishnan is a good suggestion .

Thanks Sheshu & KrishnanI have a BSNL Broad Band Router & it suppourts up to 4 lan ports MT 841Will I yet Need A Switch & by the way what is NIC Car ?ThanksRegardsDr Kukreja

NIC Card is nothing but network cards. U need one for ur home and clinic comp, So u need abt 100 mtrs network cable for connection from clinic to home. and few more meters for ur modem to ur home computer.Modem -> Home Computer | VClinic computerorModem|VSwitch->home| V clinicWill cost u another 1000-2000 to go for the 2nd option
