At last the inevitable has occurred!
Existing sify Consumer Broadband subscribers can no longer renew their plans.
The ill-conceived sify Consumer Broadband venture was doomed to fail from the start because of the the middleman (read CTO).
The local CTO was undeservingly incentivised resulting in a mafia-like situation for the subscriber.
Subscribers were at the CTO's mercy & sify turned a blind eye as its reputation was irreparably destroyed.
Perhaps our B-schools can use sify's corporate misadventure as a case study?

mmm.

Gr8. I still remember the horrors of having a sify BB 7 yrs back. it should never have come into existence

I do not see them shutting down just like that.
Trust me.
I am a subscriber who just experienced this.
In fact, I've just applied to switchover to BSNL's ADSL plan.
sify's exiting the consumer space was not sudden.
Many months ago they stopped providing technical support to all consumer connections.
We had to contact our local CTO for this.
It was a forewarning that the consumer segment was being vacated by sify.

Strange that sify is closing for customers. I have seen new brodaband entrepreneurs approaching me and claiming to have sify lease-line which they will redistribute to end-customers like us

What you are referring to is probably what sify is selling to corporate customers.
However individual home connections come under the ambit of sify's Consumer Broadband segment which has now been vacated in pursuit of the more lucrative Corporate Broadband segment.

OK. so sify-consumer division closure is done and sify is selling to corporates.
BTW, if u have wimax-bsnl in ur area, atleast have a demo from them. As i said b4, +ve responses galore.
I am making up my mind too. wimax or broadband, in either case frequency of disruption due to OFC cable-cut is going to be same. but local issues such as road digging/water-logging etc is not going to disrupt the service as its wireless thing having range 4km-15km
