With DVD writers costing just 2100 , why dont you ppl buy one. You can take backups of your important data. Dont depend on online backups , you dunno when they will be gone. Ever read the EULA when you signup for such a service?IDE 160 GB costs 2800 with SATA one costing 2950BTW saw a external 360 GB seagate HDD , which connects thru USB port , costs around 6000 🙂 , very good for ppl who want to take backups

u cannot compare hard disks with dvds. people dont exactly use hard disks as backup storage. if you download stuff, you would like to use it. DVDs is for stuff u dont really need on a daily basis.

As a rule i never store anything in C: , i even change the path of My documents and put a shortcut on desktop to which i save all my downloads 😀. So that helps when i have to re-intall windows.I dont have online backups of my files , cause i dont think my files are that important , all my important files are backed up in CD's. I thought of buying a tape drive , but the cost was way too much 😱

Problem is, neither DVD nor Online back is a sure shot solution.

DVDs can go bad even if you have stored them properly.

And as you mentioned online services do not guaranty safety of your data.

Having multiple online backups is one of the solutions.

And it does not help that impotent "data" i.e. digital pictures, suck up 1 GB in no time 🙁

You don't live in Mumbai.

Difficult to find good prices here 🙁

I am myself gonna buy a 160 but was wondering whether to wait for a while and go for 320 itself 😀

Next motherboard that I will buy for my PC will have RAID-1I plan to attach two big HDDs to that board. That ways even if one HDDs gets fried, data will be safe.

that's the way to go. till the time we get decent speeds on the net. i hate having backups on my desktop. i plan to burn my computer someday.

yeah... 2 160 gig hard disks are a safer bet than 320 gig. and the deal might be cheaper at this given time 😛

This safety comes at a cost 🙁Two 160 GB HDDs will give you only 160 GB GB with RAID 1

320 GB costs 4900 oddThe only file that is important to me in my comp is my resume , and i have that in my 4-5 email ids and backed up in CD's and USB Pen DriveOthers are songs and movies. Not much important.

so u dont even need to buy extra hard disks 😛 problem solved. 😉i have a total of 260 gigs. have around 40 gigs free. can delete around 120 gigs without any reason. data is lying there. just need the delete key.
