Hi.. I'm from Chennai i'd like to go in for a broadband connexion .. So is Sify good? Heard about their unlimited plans... would like to go in for only an unlimited package....Plan 1 64kbps 450/- per month UNLIMITEDPlan 2 128kbps Only night surfing 400/- per month UNLIMITEDOnly these 2 plans fit in my budget .. Which to opt for and what about P2P n/ws will they be blocked? And whats that about the 150mb d'load limit.. I thought this was unlimited.. I dont understand this CTO thing whats this... Hey and what realistic d'load speeds will i get in these 2 plans? Finally, Is this Cable internet technology.. i mean it isnt DSL rite?? So i dont need to buy a new DSL modem ...??? Is the 10/100mbps Ethernet LAN card on my mobo enough ?? What are the installation charges???Hope somebody would answer my calls ... Tata!!

1st of all dont go for sify. if u read the forums then u will get to know what i mean.no they dont use DSL technology.and yes there are limits on al packages.adn cto's r said to be the worst thing in chain. they will irritate u so much that u mite want to kill them.i say wait for airtel adn take there connection, thought there connection cost some 50 bux over but it sure hell is a joyfull ride.adn oh yes 450 is the charge u pay to sify u hav to pay 100 bux xtra to ur cto adn some even charge 200 bux so enquire abt evrthing.adn if ur hell bent upon takin this connection then take evrthin in writting so u can use it as a proof against them 🙂

Thx for the prompt reply.. After seeing everythin' in this forum .. i've come to my senses.. U ppl are all against SIfy...!! OK.. SO thats why. I was wondering why sify broadband doesnt get Advertised these days like BSNL or Airtel.. !!! Foolish on me anyways.. I have a DSL modem with me (Hope it fits) and a TOUCHTEL connexion ( which has changed to AIRTEL now) so.. i thought the followin plan from airtel was attractive..Home 64 (Top up Plan) 64 Kbps 600/mth UnlimitedWhat abt this one?? however .. Does this also have a d;load limit per day?And do they monitor my downloads?

well that plan has no limits as far as i know but to make sure just take from them in writtin that these plans dont hav any limit's.adn i think this is the best plan out there for ppl lookin for good conectivity and speed with a tight budjet in hand for spendin on internet service's or those who r livin with there parent's 🙂

ok ya thx then .. but u still dint tell me if they monitor my downloads.. say if i download something using a P2P client and note thy ip addresses..and one more thing what realistic d'load speeds does Airtel broadband really offer on this 64kbps unlimited connexion...

Why not visit the Airtel forum on this site. And yeah, if you have Airtel why the hell go for Sify 😉

Well the speed varies from place to place depending on the infrastructure in your area but most people on the night 128kbps pack actually get that speed. For downloading this or the 256kbps night pack are your only options. For blocked ports you will have to ask your CTO. He's probably blocking them and will open them if you ask.If you prefer browsing the 64kbps may be better but don't hold your breath trying to download ANYTHING over 10Mb. The speed on that pack have been known to consistantly stay down to about 2KB per second.Yes this is cable so you don't need a modem, your ethernet card will be enough. But as is made abundantly clear here, Sify s*cks so see if you can get Airtel or even BSNL.

woo...i just downloaded suse 9.2 ftp dvd iso-3.2 GB in 3 days flat on sify 256Kbps night pack....seems i am gonna stick with this plan for a while.Suse s*cks though had lot of problems gettin it recognise my monitor refresh rates.

Finally, Is this Cable internet technology.. i mean it isnt DSL rite?? [/b]

Yes this is cable so you don't need a modem, your ethernet card will be enough.[/b]

its not DSL(dont exactly know what it really is)[/b]

Sify is wireless broadband being delivered to your home via LAN cables. So it's not DSL and don't mistakenly thing it's cable internet 🙂

Sify is SICKfy!!!Don't use it unless ur desperate to get a high speed connection. If u do, ull be disappointed!
