Sabeer Bhatia has launched another new copycat product. I am not sure about the pricing of this service but it is supposed to be significantly cheaper than competing services...

SIM Card costs USD 10. They support shipment to USA and India.
With Jaxtr, not only do you get the freedom of affordable local calls but that same low price counts for international calls. Call and text Canada, Mexico, India and China for the local price of 15 cents per minute or per text.
For most other coutnries, it’s a flat 25 cents per minute or per text.
Could not locate much information about data services and charges.

good to see another option for International Travelers who are going for a short visit
cause
1). prepaid sims from Indian Operator certainly make you mad with details for Intl. roaming, some would say recharge with 1500 and get it, some other blah blah
all in all, you would be stranded on a foreign land with your Existing indian prepaid SIM.
2). High security amount on post paid billing
3). matrix, not for a non tech type family guy, certainly expensive and needs you to give your Credit Card with standing instructions which i hate .
lets see how this turns out, would be happy to see reviews here sometime later.

The problem is that Bhatia is again a bit late on the scene. Most people prefer to have data services along with voice when on roaming. The card does not seem to have any data component right now.

another thing which strikes my head is Where's the TRAI Identity verification process in this SIM purchase.
I tried buying one, just to see the cart, and it didn't asked for which Photo ID i would provide 😛leasantry:
I would not be surprised if this sale soon to be Banned by Govt. to avoid mis-use

I am assuming Matrix SIM Cards are not as easy to get?
Went through the website again. They give you a US based number. So well... Indian laws are largely not applicable. You are essentially on international roaming if you use it in India.

I have stopped using matrix for travel abroad. It is expensive and does not have good data options. I instead buy a sim from the airport where I land and that does the job. This time around I also encountered a stall at Delhi airport where they were selling Sims for various countries.

+1 @gadgetcrazy
Matrix guys usually have stalls in the Airport. It's much, much cheaper getting a prepaid SIM at the country of your destination. Not only will you be able to easily call local numbers, you'll have working data!

i imagine india is the only country where getting a prepaid sim card as a tourist is like shit complicated? :Olympic:

I am going to europe in May '13 , My main purpose is that whatsapp should work. which is best and cheapest way to get whats app connected in europe?
I can buy any sim in Mumbai or any local sim in europe.... please suggest...

Buy from the airport, for most countries like Britain, France, Germany etc. there are self operated vending machines and/or stalls selling SIM cards, usually for ~10€. Most have some free data allocation per day. You'll also have a lot of free public wifi networks.

Thats gr8! Thankz
any particular sim which can be used in germany+france+italy+switzer ?

yes there are, there was one called Europasim or something I think. 40€ for the SIM, works all over. Must be other providers as well.
