Hello guys. I want to do port forwarding on my PC. as i want my server to connect my pc. Say the port is 5000. how is it done. Other thing is i have messed with the the router ip i.e 192.168.1.1There i disabled the DHCP and now i get a new IP i.esomething like 167.252.128.16 and when i use this in browser to open the settings with default username password i.e admin/admin it deny the access. Please help me guys. I am using windows XP sp2. One more question what is DMZ for.Okay now what happened here is that i have used the reset button provided over the modem. I did a reset. Now when i do ipconfig at command prompt it shows all setting of ethernet adapter local area connection as 0.0.0.0

^ ignore this if you knew it before : port farwarding - MT841

after the reset , are you able to reach 192.168.1.1 ?

DMZ is demilitarized zone used in networking .
it is not safe to use ...

Hey seshu thanks for replying bro. The guide says that i need a static IP for port forwarding. Which i guess i dont have. There is a guide to setup the static ip... what you think it will work?? Can i have a static ip. by just doing that. If i got a static ip it means that i can host any website on my system.

^ you can try that guide at portforward.com site .that site should help in all problems related to ports .

^ AFAIK , you should enter your system's IP address in that box .

The IP address provided to me is 59.94.201.220 and this is dynamic IP. if i put it there and save the settings and reboot the router the IP address will be changed so how this will work. Another thing is when i doc:/> ipconfig /allI get two sort of IP addresses. first aboutEthernet Adapter Local area connection:IP address : ... subnet mask : ...PPP adapter :Again one IP address is provided here. Can anyone help me with this guys. I dont have a static IP.

^ just try with IP address of Ethernet Adapter ...________________I wish I were right

Thats right you enter the IP Address of the server which should be Static and not an IP address which is dynamically assigned by the router.Something like 192.168.1.250 make sure this IP address does not fall into the range of IP addresses set on the routers DHCP server.

Ethernet Adapters IP is 192.168.1.2The DHCP and DNS server both have values of 192.168.1.1Is that fine?

Ethernet Adapters IP is

192.168.1.2

The DHCP and DNS server both have values of

192.168.1.1

Is that fine?
[/b]

Open your web browser type 192.168.1.1
Look Under Basic > DHCP and look at the IP Range set
Select an IP address out of this range like I said before 192.168.1.250
On the server TCP/IP properties Select Static IP
Type in the IP address in this instance 192.168.1.250
Type in the subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Type the default gateway which is 192.168.1.1
Let the DNS be automatic
Check if browsing works
Setup port forwarding as per the port forwarding website
Status: Enabled
Host Name: HTTP1
Private IP: 192.168.1.250
Protocol: TCP (as req'd)
Inside Port: 80
Outside Port: 80
